Daily mail t3 telling the world what we know al... - Thyroid UK
Daily mail t3 telling the world what we know already but at least it highlights the problem.
Well that’s better journalism than before. I’m glad it’s still making the headlines in a more positive way, hopefully my NHS endo will read it and change her mind. Last time I saw her she quoted the article that said a study showed ‘no benefits of Thyriod replacement in subclinical patients’ she was trying to twist the story to benefit her negative views 😩
It's pretty well written! I hope it's easy enough to follow for people who don't know what the terms are.
My eyes nearly popped out my head when I saw they're planning to avoid prescribing T4 until TSH reaches 20!
I hope it reaches GPs, although because it in the DM they might be a bit dismissive of the story.
If they leave it until it reaches 20 they will have a lot sick people to deal with.
That was an interesting read Hidden , thanks for posting it, hopefully all our GP's and Endo's will read it. But wish I hadn't read the comments section, made me have a rant, very sad the way some people think!
Yet more journalistic rubbish. I find it offensive and cheap to introduce the drug I need as one that "lifted your mood, pepped up your sex life and helped you lose weight". Such claptrap. It's no wonder it has drawn some of the posts that it has.
wow. this is very good. who'da thunk it. normally i wouldn't even use the daily mail to wipe my backside with.
let's hope this does some good.
Whilst better than many articles about thyroid issues (who'd have thought it of the Mail?), I found the intro very poor.
"Suddenly, you are prescribed a pill that almost overnight lifts your mood and energy levels and reinvigorates your sex life. Plus, the weight starts to come off.
But then your wonder pill is withdrawn.
This is what’s been happening to many women across the UK, thanks to a little-reported postcode lottery for the drug liothyronine (or T3)."
That makes it sound like a lifestyle drug for women, as opposed to an essential regardless of gender. Repeat often enough that thyroid issues only affect women, and it will be even harder for men to get their GPs to prescribe.
I agree, but hopefully it raise the question again as to why those that are in need are denyed it , but it does sound like a wonder drug for all 😉🤔
My Endio did request the test and l await the result so let's see if l get it !!
Did you notice the bit about all hospital pharmacies? saying competition is driving T3 cost down and in March a deal with all hospital pharmacies set the price at £90 does this mean T3 will be prescribed on the NHS ?
No l did not but why don't they just buy it from abroad, it's not rocket silence 🤔
I was involved in that article written by a respected journalist. But he said several times that the editor wanted changes. I'm sure it was her who write that headline, not the journalist himself, and it trivialised it way too much.
This is the trouble . Any article I have read about hypothyroidism talks about weight gain, low mood and tiredness . As we know those listed are the least of our problems . It rendered me to deaths door because of symptoms that were so bad.
Sure many others are faced with same problems.
We need to get across just how badly it affects many of us . What can we do ?
I wonder if they realise just how much money they waste on mis diagnosis as l am sure we have all been told it's the menopause - wrong
Depression - wrong
A viral infection - wrong
The list goes on the add the drugs for those they give us and the GP time etc if they took the time and got the Meds correct they would more than save the cost of t3 🤔
It says;
There are similar problems, says Dr Taylor, with a recent review that concluded stricter guidelines should be applied to giving even T4 to hypothyroid patients. Currently, patients are prescribed T4 if a blood test shows levels of a thyroid marker over 10; the review advises it should be over 20.
How will this affect existing patients? I got treated (it wasn’t easy obviously) with a TSH of over 5. Will I be now told I can’t be treated?
