Can anyone tell me if there is a supplement for iron that does not work like cement? Had an op. go badly wrong many moons ago and cannot take ordinary iron tabs. I am using every other means to ingest as much as I can but know I need more. Appetite not good and cannot take large potions of food. any suggestions greatly appreciated this end.
Thank you.

I use iron bisglycinate,as I find only very slightly binding.I also take magnesium bisglycinate, and this has the opposite effect,so they counter-balance.
You could try a whole food iron supplement, which is what I take occasionally just to keep my ferritin topped up. I use Garden of Life Raw Iron Supplement.
Or you could eat liver, which is what I did to raise my ferritin originally, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, also liver pate, black pudding, and include lots of iron rich foods in your diet
Many thanks to you all - have jotted down the suggestions and will do a bit of reading up on the various items. I have stuffed my self with all sorts of food but know I am running on low, had thought of swinging from the lamp shade sucking an iron bar but decided better not as they would only send for the men in white coats. Great life if you don't give up, sort one problem out and up pops another - still can always come on here and let some steam off!!!
Thanks Susie - have added it to my list, there has to be one that will suit - surely. Magnesium does a good job of moving things along but only need it twice a week. anyone got any sunshine to spare pop it along up here.
I use Spatone sachets - 2 per day in a little fresh orange juice. Slowly seems to be working but is at least very gentle. (Holland and Barrett sell them but Tesco's usually has them on offer if a bigger store) Best wishes
I have problems with Iron supplements and have recently started taking Desiccated Liver capsules to help my ferritin levels. I must admit I feel so much better since taking them. I will be testing my levels in about 6 weeks from now, so, it will be interesting to see if they have helped.
