Donating blood with hashimotos

I have been advised that it now allowable to donate blood with hashis (I was previously forced to ‘retire’ about 20 years ago by the donation team).

Now I’m feeling better, I’d like to donate again. I just wondered if anyone else donates and if so, do you still feel ok afterwards? I’d hate to go back to how I used to feel.

Many thanks.

I actually donated last Thursday!

I declared I had antibodies, but wasn't yet under-active, but that I probably will be one day. The nurse said that's fine, when it comes to thyroid issues, they just want you to be "stable on your medication", which they define as being on the same dose for a minimum of 4 months.

I felt pretty much the same as the last time I gave blood - for about 20 hours after, I felt light headed if I stood up too fast. I was very tired at the weekend, but I think that's because neighbours were having house parties, so I was didn't get very good quality sleep.

You probably want your vitamin levels to be good before you give blood. Iron especially.

Edit: I just remembered to add that the last time I gave blood was about 7 years ago, and likely pre-hashimotos, so my light-headedness wasn't directly due to my Hashimotos as far as I can tell.

I used to but other things have stopped me now but they will just confirm with you each time that you are stable.

Never had any problems after
