I have Hashimoto caused hypothyroidism. I was wondering if anyone out there is on a special diet for it. I feel so sick all the time and my daughter keeps after me to change my eating habits.
Thanks

What are your eating habits? And what does your daughter want you to change to?
I saw a naturopath today and she said my eating habits were good. Oatmeal for breakfast, some kind of sandwich for lunch and meat and plenty of veggies for dinner. I am not a sweet eater and I don’t eat junk food. Not a snacked at all.
My daughter just feels that I am eating wrong. She is an RN not that may mean much and she is in the Keto diet and feels so much better. Maybe my combination is wrong. Like she can’t eat peanut butter and banana with milk. Alone is ok. The combo makes her sick.
Are you Canadian? I saw a post to someone today and thought Canada right away.
Thank you for replying.
No, I'm British living in France.
I personally believe that diet is a very personal thing. And, if you feel good on what you eat, there's nothing obviously wrong with it. I dread to think what your daughter would say about my diet! lol But, I've tried gluten-free, dairy-free and tra-la-la and none of it has made me feel any better. I'm a firm believer in the adage: a little of what you fancy does you good.
Of course, if you have an obvious reaction to gluten or dairy, it makes sense to stop eating it. But if you don't, well, I doubt it's going to make you any healthier to give them up.
Personally, I think that peanut butter, banana and milk would make me sick, too. Sounds disgusting! But, as I said, we're all different. And we have to experiment to find a way of eating that suits us as individuals. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all. Even with clothes, that's rarely true!
Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are good. Very Canadian/ American.
My daughter lived as an au pair in France for nine months so I know how they eat. The interesting thing to us was that she totally pigged out in their yummy food and never gained an ounce. She gains weight very easily and that is why she went on the Keto diet. I have been reading about that diet with Hashimotos. No one quite agrees if it’s good or bad for us. I’ll need to research more but it’s bedtime and my eyes are falling out from being on this phone for hours now reading.
Bonne nuit or is it bon
Bonne. Nuit is feminine.
For the most part, I'm not really impressed by French cuisine. It's good in a good restaurant, but the average home cook is not that wonderful. I've had some terrible meals in France!
The keto diet is neither good nor bad for Hashi's. It's good if it suits the individual, but bad if it doesn't. There can be no common accord because we're all different.
Hi there
I guess my daughter was lucky because the lady she worked for is a wonderful cook. We have stayed with them several times so know first hand. After 29 years we are still great friends. Have had both her boys her for up to two month stays.
My naturopath has finally ok’d Thyroid and hopefully I get it tomorrow. Excited but don’t want to get my hopes up too much. She said to wait until everything is settled before I start any type of diet. My body needs time to readjust.
What part of France do you live in? We love that country but I love England way more.
I would dump all processed grains and anything containing gluten - I'm more allergic to oats than wheat, but everyone is different. Many people with Hashis do better on a low carb diet, but not all. Since your absorption of vitamins and minerals is probably poor, you need to eat liver or other iron-rich meat a couple of times a week and possibly take probiotics and/or digestive enzymes
Thanks for answering. I almost gagged when you said eat liver!!!! You couldn’t pay me to!! That and salmon! The smell, thought and look are enough to turn me off. If you were thinking if getting iron, I actually have too much. I’m trying to lower it to within range. I was so high because big chemo last year that I was in danger of needing to have some drained off. Getting better now though.
Thanks for answering.
Are you on a phone - if so scroll down and down to RELATED POSTS - where you will see 10 more posts like yours.
I have read through your other posts and you often mention your vitamins and minerals are fine - but no actual results for B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD. Who said they are fine ?
Hi Marz
You must be Canadian if you are texting at this time???? Also, is it you or your husband. I thought of posting a picture but the best one had my hubby in it. You look like us age wise. I like knowing at least a bit about who is writing. Anyways, I digress.
I had a full blood panel in February and it was all good. I will check again to make sure. I just know that nothing was flagged.
Oh great! I am on a phone and will check the posts out now. I see them.
Thanks for answering.
