Is there any evidence to show that B12 deficiency can cause hyperthyroidism? Trying to understand what's going on with me 🙈 Thankyou

B12 deficiency and hyperthyroidism

I doubt that as B12, is a very important pro-hormone and not a thyroid hormone. We can have a B12 deficiency or pernicious anaemia due to stomach not being able to absorb B12 from food.
I have pernicious anaemia which was diagnosed long before I became hypothyroid. My mother also had P.A. too. It is due to stomach changes which don't allow B12 to be absorbed. Once we have one autoimmune disease we can develop others.
There is also a pernicious anaemia forum on healthunlocked which you can check with.
I understand about PA. I was diagnosed just over a year ago, but suspect I was suffering for a good few years before that. I self inject, but reduced frequency after advice from my GP (silly, I know). As soon as I reduced, I started getting symptoms again. Bloods came back and I was put on Carbimazole for hyper. I know that B12 is crucial for all cells, so just wondered if it was possible to cause thyroid to misbehave if levels were low over a period of time - it affects everything else, it seems.
I've posted on PA forum too 👍
No, definitely hyper/overactive. My symptoms for both hyper and B12d are very similar. I know that B12 is crucial for all cells, so just wondered if it has been documented as causing any thyroid issues, as my levels have been too low, despite having injections
That would tie in with the fact that when I collected my first prescription for carbimazole my pharmacist came out specially to tell me to take high strength vitamin C
I took 1000mcg slow -release vitamin C every day I took carb. I don’t take it all the time now ( been in remission for six years) but I still take it every now and again.
I still take B12 and vitaminD3/K2/ magnesium depending on my levels when I test my blood.
I hate that when I lose something online that I want to refer back to. Keep looking and hopefully you will find and can post it 😉 it sounds interesting.
That would be an interesting read as my iron was 7 when I was diagnosed with B12d last year. I had microcytic anaemia, which GP said was unusual with PA.
Dang. I’d love to see that paper.
