I am quite new to this forum having only written a couple of posts. I would really appreciate it if anyone could recommend some good information sources about thyroiditis/Hashimotos and how to manage symptoms.
I have known for a while I have thyroid antibodies. But to date have felt ok and my TSH has been sub clinically hypo going back to normal over the past 6 years. I recently had a neck scan for another reason and it showed the damage to my thyroid, so now I know for sure this is happening.
A bit of background - I was diagnosed with autoimmune atrophic gastritis and have Pernicious Anaemia. Having sorted the PA with regular B12 injections I felt ok for about 3 months and now feel horrible again. I’m tired, cold, tingly, if I feel like I have energy I don’t have enough to say go on a run, my sleep is disturbed and anxiety and panic prevalent. I have food intolerances (wheat and dairy) and IBS.
I’m beginning to see how this all fits together but want to know how to manage the thyroid issue. When should I start Levo (I’m subclinical again now)? Will there be flares? Even if I take Levo my immune system will completely destroy my thyroid I assume? Will I be stuck with these horrible symptoms even on Levo? Is weight gain a given even on Levo a given?
I don’t expect any answers from you to these many questions but good trustworthy sources of info would be very welcome. I would like to feel well again if possible. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any support.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Add any results and ranges if you have them
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If antibodies are high this is normally Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .
High TG antibodies can be due to other issues e.g. like PA, type one diabetes
