Is there a difference between Thyroid medication Tiromel T3 and Uni Pharma T3 apart from the price? 🤔

I have used Uni Pharma T3 and Tiromel but I can't understand why the prices for what seems to be the same thing are so different.

Any info would be great.

I was told Tiromel is a little weaker than UniPharma, but have never taken this to find out for myself. Perhaps someone else has tried both.

They are similar products - but just like any two medicines, especially thyroid medicines, people have different views about them.

The prices if you bought in a pharmacy in their home countries would be very low and not much different.

All others who are selling them are making their own profit which can be huge.

A little over £1 a pack for UniPharma unless they charge €2 tourist prices, though I'm happy to pay that & more if a pharmacy has it.

Then there's flights, local transport, accomodation, subsistence, extra coffee, & postage, so overall cost is about £10 a pack. A lot of time, lost sleep, pain, worry & stress not included. Not feeling hypo is priceless, though the actual cost of improving my health does have a price tag.

I'm not currently a T3 user, so this is purely curiosity, but are you able to say where you actually travel to to buy T3, over the counter?

I feel like Uni Pharma T3 is more effective for me. However, there are so many other variables that affect how I feel, I'm not sure whether its medication helping or just life giving me a break for once! 😊

When I take it I do lose weight ( and I need to) and I have more energy ( can stay awake past 8pm) 🤗 which I feel is a result of the medication.

I pay between £18-£20 for 30 so they can be delivered to my home. I really need to go to a country where they sell them over the counter.

I worked out it would be the better travel than take a chance with the company that had started ripping people off, though it's really hard work to find it. There's been tears every time, for different reasons, but always blisters, & occasionally some hilarity when I bought B12 vials..

That's very expensive. It used to be easy in Greece but due to shortage worldwide of T3 (I believe) it is by prescription alone. There was none in Greece last year.

Last year was really hard (45 packets in 45km) compared to the year before when one pharmacist sold it in packets of ten & had a whole cupboard full. This year many pharmacists said it didn't exist (they lie!) & others that they didn't stock it. It is available, though more miss than hit. I was informed by a nice pharmacist, near where I stay, who tried to order for me that it's now regulated by the government rather than their pharmaceutical suppliers.

I still found it hard to source when I went last month, though probably wouldn't if I could buy a months' worth as I need it rather than a year's worth in a few days.

I remain puzzled that someone I met, who was Greek, chose to take T4 instead.

I have and do use both. Effect wise I prefer unipharma over tiromel but can't really explain why. It just seems more... gentle. As I'm T3 only, availability and cost of tiromel make it the better option for me at the moment though.

Hi, are you able to share where you purchase your T3 from. Recently diagnosed with T4 to T3 conversion issue but told by GP and endo they will not prescribe T3.

Hi, the endocrinologist at the hospital has referred to a private GP, I was told he could prescribe T3 but I would have to pay, told me it was expensive. He never discussed NDT, next appointment is in June so I will ask. Thanks

I like a mix of both, More NDT autumn to winter, & a higher ratio of T3 to NDT or T3 only in summer. I don't think they understand NDT.

I can't tell you the difference between the 2 meds, but I can tell you that I started Tiromel last year. I had not taken T3 before and I chose to trial Tiromel simply because it was so apparently reasonable and for around £11 a pack, I got 100 tabs, instead of 30 tabs per pack for other brands that I looked at.

I have had no reason to change meds to other brands of T3. It works for me is all I can say. The NHS is known to choose the cheaper meds available so I figured if they can do it why shouldn't I do the same and save myself a little cash?

I haven't changed my mind as yet. Good luck, hope you find the best for you.
