Hi, thank you everyone for replies to my previous post. I went to GP and he said it was probably carpal tunnel and has given me water tablets and advised to buy wrist splints. He said the water tablets may or may not work but worth a try. As my surgery for my goitre has been put back another eight weeks. I had another full blood test. Today I have been asked to go for a repeat test. Receptionist st GP didn’t seem to think it was a fasting one. But even if it isn’t, would I be best to do anyway? Would it give a better result? Any ideas why another test is required? Worried that something else is wrong !
Kind regards

Yes, as SlowDragon advised in reply to your previous post.
When booking thyroid tests, we advise:
* Book the first appointment of the morning. This is because TSH is highest early morning and lowers throughout the day. If we are looking for a diagnosis of hypothyroidism, or looking for an increase in dose or to avoid a reduction then we need TSH to be as high as possible.
* Fast overnight - have your evening meal/supper as normal the night before but delay breakfast on the day of the test and drink water only until after the blood draw. Eating may lower TSH, caffeine containing drinks affect TSH.
* If taking thyroid hormone replacement, leave off Levo for 24 hours before blood draw, if taking NDT or T3 then leave that off for 8-12 hours. Take after the blood draw. Taking your dose too close to the blood draw will give false high results, leaving any longer gap will give false low results.
These are patient to patient tips which we don't discuss with doctors or phlebotomists.

Possibly just as simple as the blood sample was haemolysed, it happened with one sample done at my surgery.

The phlebotomist once left the vial containing blood for my FT3 test in the sun, for whatever reason, so it spoiled and I had to have a repeat draw.
But did you in any case, obtain a copy of your last blood test results, which would identify for you, if there were any abnormal results that needed repeating? Without seeing what was tested, and what were the results, it's only guessing. If you didn't ask for a print out, you can ask the receptionist for one, then post the results here for folks to comment more specifically.
You need FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing, as per previous post
Highly likely you will need to do so privately.....but first you are legally entitled to printed copies of all your blood test results
Very important to see what has been tested and equally important what hasn't been tested yet
UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
Come back with new post once you get test results and ranges
Water pill? Do you have fluid swelling? Potassium might be more helpful and also B6 in addition to a B complex supplement might do more for carpal tunnel.
