I have not been feeling well. Hypothyroidism runs in my family.. back in January I was not feeling well . I asked my PC to run a thyroid test and a hashimoto's test.. the hashimoto's came up high.. all other numbers good .. I have swelling in my belly and legs where my socks are. Prickly hands. Very sensitive to cold .. is this common for symptoms .. I see a endocronolo!gist in two weeks. Can anyone help .. thanks so much.

Doctors rely on the thyroid blood tests to make a diagnosis and if they regard the results as normal they will ignore the antibodies and refuse to diagnose or treat.

Your symptoms indicate hypothyroid, but the fact that Hypothyroidism runs in your family points to a genetic condition: Impaired Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone (more often known as Thyroid Hormone Resistance). It causes hypothyroid symptoms and requires very high T3 levels (often above the top of the normal range) in the body to overcome the resistance. It is worth trying but unfortunately it is unlikely that you will get any help from your GP.
