Period a week early - Hashi’s related?

Hi all

My period usually comes every 25 to 26 days but has arrived a whole week early today. Is this something to do with Hashi’s? Could it indicate under medication? Or even over medication (not that I think I’m over medicated, recently results are on my last post).

Thanks!

In June 2018 I had Hyper symptoms. I cut back on my meds. I would usually have my periods every 26-28 days. In Aug it was 23dys, Sept 23days, Oct none, Nov none, Dec I had a period and then Jan- March back to 28days.

Jan- March I am now Hypo again.

I think you would need 3/4mths history of irregular periods to begin to think about what’s going on. For me it fit with my Hyper symptoms. Although i was Hyper in June/July/Aug/Sept. By Oct I no longer felt Hyper but the Nov TSH year suggested that I was still over medicated. Pretty much sums up how shit the tests are! 😂

Do you need your period? Do you want to get pregnant? If you feel fine that I would just monitor for now, wait and see?

Thanks Paula6. That’s interesting. I certainly don’t feel hyper and although my TSH is low my FT3 and FT4 are low too. I’m still struggling with fatigue too.

I’m not trying to get pregnant so no real issue with not having a period in that respect but it does bother me that something isn’t functioning properly, and that I don’t understand why. As you’ve said though, it could just be a one off.

I was also thinking dont mention it if you go for a review of meds because they will use it against you to say you are over medicated. Unfortunately I feel like we have be careful about what symptoms we do and don’t divulge because the GP’s have their set boxes that they like to put us in because they don’t treat us by what we say, our symptoms, they like their boxes ticked 😬

Good point, thank you!! I do usually think that way before I see my endo but not sure I would’ve thought not to mention this so thank you!

ofcourse if it’s not a one of then try to figure out why. I knew I was Hyper, it was not very pleasant, I’d rather be in a Hypo coma than be hyper 😩 So I’m pretty sure you’ll know if your symptoms change, if this is the start of something it’ll become evident. Unfortunately my GP didn’t do me the courtesy of doing my FT4/FT3 so I have no idea what they were during my One and only hyper experience 😩

I had to go down the route of seeing a private endo. GP didn’t believe that there was anything worth investigating re my thyroid but surprise surprise I’ve got Hashi’s! So I get my blood tests done privately. GP won’t take over the management of it now as the private endo is prescribing both T4 and T3. How did you feel when you went Hyper?

Yes I’m just starting the process of private after my NHS Endo has said that my bloods are normal and so no change to treatment, he was interested in my DIO2 test but I didn’t have results at time of seeing him. But he said my bloods don’t suggest a conversion problem. Then I emailed my results which said I had inherited 1 mutation meaning that I may have difficulty converting. This makes sense to me as my FT3 results show that I am just about in range but that it is never elavated no matter how much T4 I take. Anyway he’s got the results and now he says he has to speak to a geneticist because the test was done privately 😩

When I was Hyper it crept up, I could not sit down and relax, I was go go go! Believe me shit got done!!! But then the anxiety crept in as well. I am a super confident outgoing loud person, I love life but I became anxious. I also stayed up late into the night, not relaxing with hubby, nope, I had jobs to do, painting, ironing anything I could. But I was tired the whole time! Absolutely exhausted but unable to nap. My sister had Graves for years, she was 10times worse and I often couldn’t stand to be around her 😬 snappy and angry. She refused most treatments, she put all her energy into sport and completed an Ironman in Barcelona, complete nutter I don’t know how she lived with it for years, I found it horrid and I only experienced it for a couple of months.

I hope you have more success with a private endo 🤞

Blimey, sounds like it was quite clear you were hyper then! So tricky trying to get the balance right isn’t it?! So did you still have quite low FT3 levels even when you felt hyper?

🤷‍♀️ I’ve had 3 incidents of below range TSH and all 3 times they never checked my FT4 or 3 😩 Typical!

I actually don’t remember feeling Hyper in Dec 2017, my first TSH of 0.03. I only felt Hyper in summer of 2018 with 0.09 and just felt Hypo in Nov with a TSH of 0.09( no change)

How frustrating! I did have a TSH as low as 0.02 back in Nov and both my FT3 and FT4 were above range but I didn’t feel hyper at all. Then retested with the same amount of medication still in Jan and my TSH was nearly 6 and my FT3 and FT4 were well below range! It was the huge swing between the two that tipped us of that I probably had Hashi’s, confirmed soon after by blood tests. Who knows what my next blood tests will show?!😂

You could do a private iron test to see if that could be a cause of things being erratic. Low iron can cause heavy bleeding and possibly a short menstrual cycle as well.

This is a good test, which only requires a finger-prick amount of blood :

Thanks humanbean. I recently had my ferritin tested as part of the Medichecks Ultravit test, do you think that’d be sufficient? Think my level was pretty good, was 104 (13 - 150)

Yes, that level for ferritin looks good. :)
