First day ever on levo (liquid form - Mercury Pharma). Had my thyroid removed yesterday, not on meds before. Not sure if I am just recovering from surgery but my left ear has tinnitus constantly and earlier when I laid on it I had very wooly reduced hearing for a few hours.
I am also sat here and can feel my heart rate beating faster. Could be I am in stress from surgery but could it be the new Levothyroxine in my system? I was given 100m. I am 5ft 9i and 55kg and 49.5 years old Is this too much? Thank you

Well done for getting through the operation. Levo takes a while to work so I suspect your symptoms are related to the operation - but others on here who have also had a TT can probably advise better than me.
Be kind to yourself - give yourself plenty of time to heal and recuperate. It is a major operation. Have lots of treats.

Mention your concerns to you doctor. Blood tests are used to check the medicine levels. Call and talk to him or his nurses!
I had mine removed 3 years ago. I woke up from the operation with the loud ringing in my ears and it’s never gone away. They said there was no link but very strange that it appeared the same day and I’d never had it before! Someone recommended magnesium and I take it every day but it’s made no difference.
I had the fast heart rate too but it calmed down quite quickly. I still get it if they change my medication but it only lasts a week or so. It feels like there’s a butterfly flapping about in my chest.
My surgeon said that when they remove the thyroid some of the hormones can leak into your system so it might seem for a little while that you’re over medicated. He said it didn’t last long though.
I’m supposed to get checks every 6 weeks at the moment but my body must work very slowly because I don’t feel any difference for 8-10 weeks so I always leave it that long.
When I had my operation I just got lots of rest and gave my body time to get used to the medication. I did get get bored of waiting and just wanted to be back to normal but you can’t rush these things.
I hope you can get plenty rest and take your time to get better.
Thyroidectomy takes time for your body to adjust. Levothyroxine takes about 6 weeks to get into all your cells and is not quick acting so it's unlikely your symptoms are from the levothyroxine and more likely the after effects of surgery. You've had anaesthetic and no doubt pain relief all of which may possibly have minor side effects besides their needed functions.
As soon as you are well enough, get your vitamin levels checked, B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D. Some anaesthetic can knock out your B12 stores or reduce them and if you were low in the first place then you will need to replenish. Low B12 can cause tinnitus. Critical to test vitamin D as good levels support recovery from thyroidectomy. When you have all your vitamin blood test results, post them on this forum along with the lab ranges for good advice from experienced members. Dr's often say all ok when they are in range but that doesn't mean they are optimal. We won't feel well if we're bumping along the bottom of the range and trying to recover from losing a thyroid gland.
I had exactly the same back in Oct 2015. Never before the TT had I taken any medication and weirdly my thyroid was working perfectly before the removal.
You probably still have plenty of thyroid in your system, I was given 100mcg too.
It caused the same as you this is a sign of over medication I think. I am 5ft 8.5 inches tall and weighed around 10 stone when I had my TT.
I hope you feel better soon it does take time and patience, I now self medicate with NDT and feel well. Other more experienced people will help you.
What brand and how much NDT do you use please??? I am on the oral levo at the mo. Still have tinnitus in left ear.
I have been taking thyroid s for over two years now I buy a thousand and take two grains per day. The first one at 6.30 am and the second at around 2pm.
