How can you loose weight with hypo
Weight: How can you loose weight with hypo - Thyroid UK
Weight
You need to have good levels of thyroid hormones, vitamins and minerals.
Need a nutrient dense diet packed with thyroid enhancing vitamins and minerals. Good gut function.
No one diet will fit all however, low carb, ketogenic, paleo, low cal, low fat, AIP, fasting, meal replacement etc etc will have worked for someone on this board.
Sounds impossible but is - I think of I've learnt anything is that there is no quick fix for ANYTHING when hypothyroid.
Weight gain is the commonest question on the forum and one of the distressing ones. The doctors seem to blame the patient for the unexplained weight gain but it can be due to levothyroxine not being increased until the TSH is 1 or lower with both Free T4 and Free T3 being in the upper part of the ranges.
Your vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate all have to be optimum. Deficiencies can also cause symptoms.
Your blood tests have always to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of levo and test and take afterwards. This helps keep the TSH at its highest as it drops throughout the day.
Essential to test thyroid antibodies and vitamins
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
First thing is, do you have any actual blood test results? if not will need to get hold of copies. You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
Come back with new post once you have results and ranges

^^^^ALL of what has been said, then maybe try the Keto lifestyle with intermittent fasting. Do a little research on it for help, but the premise is low-carb, high fat (good fats) and healthy eating. Intermittent fasting can be done a number of ways, with a (usually) successful approach being 8 hours eating/16 hours no eating. If done correctly (this is where doing your own research is VERY helpful), this lifestyle can help you shed many pounds, lose the brain fog and excessive tiredness, and give you a lot more energy, as well as better quality of sleep. Also, by design, the keto diet kicks out many inflammatory foods for us hypos, such as gluten and lactose containing foods.
