If you haven't already done so, you could have a look and read around the Thyroid UK website here thyroiduk.org
If you have questions (and I'm sure you will!), just ask here and members will do their best to help.
The book you are remembering is The Root Cause by Dr Izabella Wentz, which is about Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. The book I would recommend and was the first one I bought because it was (quite rightly) recommended to me, is Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy by Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield, a wonderful man whose many patients sing his praises.

I recommend Susan Blum - The Immune System recover plan
Websites by Isabella Wentz, Amy Myers, Dr K and Chris Kresser all very good
According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies
Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

You likely need dose increase in Levothyroxine. Getting bloods done asap, if not been retested yet is next step. tSH, FT3 and FT4 plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Come back with new post once you get results and ranges
izabella Wentz book the root cause 😊
This is the book my chiropractic Physician recommended and the author is who the practice follows. It saved my life. I had a thyroid storm after a major surgery that got caught almost accidentally. I went to a neurologist for possible Parkinson's (which I do have) and she decided at the last minute to check my T3 which was almost nothing. Anyway after the test I found the Dr who followed Dr. Datis Kharrazian . It was not easy at first but I have managed it for 5 years with no medication except a beta blocker for a couple months in the beginning. I get blood tests done once a year to make sure all is well. The book is called "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms when my lab tests are normal". It is a bit technical but explains so much. Good luck!
Thank you will look for the book 📚 so I can read it
I just finish a 6 week lecture series by Sarah Ballantyne Phd on the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) She has two books out of how to implement the autoimmune protocol. Many with autoimmune disease are putting their condition into remission. Sarah has at least 2 autoimmune conditions herself, including Hashimoto’s. She has her degree in medical biophysics, and her books and protocol are science based and referenced. You can find her blog at The Paleo Mom. Search there for AIP. I’m 14 weeks into the program, and I’m hoping to begin reintroductions soon.
