Has anyone on this site been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and never taken any Synthroid? What side effects have you noticed? Also, has anyone had signs of any mental illness or bi polar signs connected to Hashimotos? Especially if not taking any medicine to treat the Hashimotos? Thanks in advance for all replies and information.

Just to clarify, there is no medical treatment for Hashimoto's, the autoimmune condition; only suggested lifestyle changes such as to diet - eating gluten- or dairy-free for instance. Taking exogenous thyroid hormones is the treatment for the resultant hypothyroidism which develops as the thyroid is destroyed by the autoimmune condition. However, not everyone diagnosed with Hashimoto's goes on to develop hypothyroidism, nor to do so contemporaneously with the Hashimoto's diagnosis - there can be a time lag between the two. Therefore it is possible for someone to have the diagnosis and not (yet) be prescribed hormone supplementation/replacement.

There's some research suggests that yes Hashimoto's can be linked or misdiagnosed as bi polar

Low vitamins are extremely common with Hashimoto's
Essential to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin. These need to be at good levels, not just at bottom on range. Always get actual results and ranges
Presumably you have had TSH, FT3 and FT4 tested, plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested ?
Hi Portugal-2 Here is another link to a different doctor with good info on her site . Dr.Kelly Brogan has alot of info on you tube too.

I had a friend with both bipolar and Hashimotos. I think having Hashimotos makes bipolar worse if Thyroid not treated well
