Thyroid check

Hi guys, I’ve used medichecks and ordered a full thyroid screening including antibodies, should be here tomorrow. Can you please tell me when the best time is to take the sample? And whether or not I should fast beforehand. I’m on earlies all week meaning 4:00am wake ups but don’t know if I should be doing it before or after work.

As you're looking for a diagnosis, then early morning, fasting blood test, drinking water only until afterwards is what you need.

The first post in this thread shows a graph of TSH levels throughout the day (1st graph). You can see that between midnight and 4am TSH is highest then it lowers throughout the day with the lowest point being 1pm. So you would be best doing your test before you go to work.

So early morning test, no breakfast, coffee, tea, etc, before the test, just water.

If you do your test on Thursday, post back by Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm Next day, obtain a receipt from the counter assistant so that you can track it and if it doesn't arrive by the stated time you can reclaim the fee. Medichecks say they require the sample to arrive next day, normal first class post isn't guaranteed next day and your sample could be delayed, you don't want it stuck in the system over the weekend and risk it not being a viable sample when they get round to testing it.

If you can't do your test on Thursday, best to leave it until Monday.
