Can anyone offer some explanation tired and hair loss. Endo is saying to reduce levothyroxine

I've just had my blood results back from last week. I am so tired, blurred vision and hair loss despite my increase in levothyroxine. I have both hashimotos and type1 diabetes. My endocrinologist told me this morning to decrease my levothyroxine slightly because my tsh is suppressed. I am currently on 150mcg 4vdays a week and 175 the other 3. She says to only have the 175 2 days a week now.

Hi Pawsedagain , I'm not medically trained and certainly no expert but your FT3 and FT4 aren't anywhere near top of range so your results don't suggest overmedication to me. I would have thought it could even be worth trying an increase in your levo to see if that helps. Your ferritin does also look to be on the low side - it's usually suggested to be at least halfway through the range on here - which could also contribute to fatigue and hair loss. Really hope you find the answer.

Thank you virtualreality for your prompt response and good advice. I had suspected that I would get both the issues you pointed out but just needed confirmation.

Having a low TSH is not a good reason to reduce your levo, when your FT4 is not even near the top of the range. You are only over-medicated if your FT3 is over-range. I would refuse, if I were you.

Plus the stupid little amount by which she wants to reduce it is hardly likely to raise your TSH. So, next time she would want another reduction, and another, until you become under-medicated. Not a good game to play! She should not be dosing by the TSH, and this just goes to show how little she knows about thyroid. :(

Thank you for your prompt reply. I did suspect that my levothyroxine did not need decreasing. I was even thinking of upping the dose by another 25mcg per week. I am already taking ferroglobin and vitamin c. But will increase the amount to try and get my ferretin levels up. Thank you again greygoose.
