Hello friends. I have had a very itchy skin for the last few months and one part of the skin has gone darker and at that point it feels like something is creeping about on it. I had an ultrasound scan yesterday and this spot seemed to be pinpointed by the person giving the ultrasound. I was asked to go into the doctors this morning who revealed that I have a swollen right kidney. This afternoon I was contacted and an appointment to see a kidney specialist was made for a week today. I have no idea how serious this is. My question is Do I carry on self medicating with the NDT, or shall I leave it off until I have seen this specialist? At the moment I am on three quarters of a tablet Thyroid-S. Your comments and help with this problem would be very much appreciated. x
Please help. Kidney problem. : Hello friends. I... - Thyroid UK
Please help. Kidney problem.
You shouldn't stop needed NDT.
Thank you. It is only a week until the specialist sees me, so I will carry on. It is just that I am self medicating, and you know how touchy specialists can be!
I understand, but stopping NDT will make you ill. Just me, but I don't care if I have a doctor's approval. I have disregard for authority figures.
Yes, I feel that way myself. I have asked for help with thyroid but didnt get any, so now self medicating. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Very much appreciated.
Hello, do you have fever or some other symptoms? Pain in the back or stomach on the side where your kidney is? I had an inflamed kidney due to bacteria E.colli. My CRP levels were 170, I had high fever and pain. Anyway, I was hospitalized for a couple of days and everything went back to normal once I was properly medicated. In all this time, I didn’t stop taking Levothyroxine (that’s my therapy) so I wouldn’t advise you to stop taking it. If you have thyroid problems, stopping medication would do you more harm than good
Thank you masa2333. I have a very itchy skin but there is a spot on the side where the itching is worse. Had this for months and months but getting worse. When I had the ultrasound scan the person doing it kept coming back to this spot. My doctor said that the itching might not be connected, but I think it is. Your comments give me hope that it might be something easily rectified. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. Much appreciated.
Itchy skin. . Kidney Infection. . . . Have a swollen enlarged left kidney from dormant infection. Crp always elevated. Couldnt figure out. Then pain and high temperature. Infection. . Itch is a marker. Every time eltroxin dose thyroid reduced. Infection returns. . . Awful. . . . Am Drinking jin. . Good for kidneys. Old Irish remedy. . And it works. Neat. Down da hatch and signs and symptoms gone. . . . Horrible stuff but it works. . . Hope this helps. X
Hello Olivua. You did make me laugh, but if it works, then don't knock it. There is obviously something in gin that helps you. It is good that we find our own way to help ourselves, rather than rely on others who don't understand. My Crp is low, but my ferritin went high when I was taking too much Thyroid-S. I didn't know it was too much as I was trying to reach my 'sweet spot' but didn't have any symptoms to alert me. Unfortunately it is trial and error. I don't have pain or high temperature, just the awful itching. Apple cider vinegar with mothers seems to be the best thing for me to put on morning and night, and it does reduce the itching. Hope you are able to get rid of the infection once and for all. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated. Best wishes. x
Happy Sunday. . Yes gin. . Spelt it wrong the. Last post. .!!!! . . . . . Had Stones and just awful. . . But consultant told. Me about gin too. . And he is. Moroccan!!! . . Could be a stone if u taking Alot of supplements. As Calcium is used as a binder and filler. . . . Don't worry. It's common to have an enlarged kidney. . . . . With a dormant infection. . . Sit tight and it will be investigated. Don't Google!!! It's frightening. . . Keep us posted on how u get onn. . . . X
Hello Olivua. Was just speaking to my son who's mother in law is on a dialysis machine because of her kidney failure. He also mentioned that his m.i.l. was told not to take various supplements also! Was trying to be as healthy as possible, but it might seem that I am inadvertently doing the wrong thing. I used to drink gin and lime in my 20s but it doesn't appeal to me now, but who knows you might have a gin drinking partner soon!! We might as well be merry with whatever life throws at us! Was the Moroccan consultant in UK? Will see what the specialist says on Friday and take it from there. I wonder if I am having too much calcium as I make kefir (not sure of spelling) and have some every day. Also eat plenty of cheese. Life used to be so simple at one time - but hey ho, we are alive and kicking. Best wishes. x
You’re welcome! if it’s been bothering you for months it may be that the kidney stone is being formed, which again is nothing dangerous, you would either pee it or get it removed. If it was something more serious no doctor would let you go home. Do you have appointment again any time soon?
Hello masa2333. Yes, I have an appointment with a Kidney Specialist on Thursday. Not sure what to think as my dr. seemed reluctant to say what the problem was. Was asking me what I had been told at the scan and what it was! I said that I thought thats what I had been called to the doctors for. She said I might need an MRI. Keeping an open mind, but your comments do reassure me. Thank you!
