Hi everyone: I am an ardent fan of all things... - Thyroid UK
Hi everyone
CBD oil is good stuff, but it can't replace thyroid hormone, if your levels are low.
Besides, one doesn't take drugs for hypothyroidism, one takes thyroid hormone replacement. There's a choice: synthetic T4 and/or T3, which are exact replicas of the hormone your thyroid makes, or NDT, which is made from pig thyroid. So, pretty 'natural' if that's what you want.
Dear Greygoose
I am already on thyroxine hormone tablets of 100mcg but want to try cbd oil too as a supplement,I wanted to know if anyone on the medication has tried cbd oil and if they had any improvements.By the way cbd oil is not “drugs”, it doesn’t get you high if that’s what you meant.
I didn't say it was 'drugs'. I know what CBD oil is, I take it myself. And, yes, it has improved certain symptoms. But, whether those symptoms were actually hypo symptoms or something else, I don't know.
I only mentioned 'drugs' because you said you wanted something 'natural' - presumably as opposed to 'drugs'. And I was explaining that what one takes for hypo is pretty natural anyway, so I don't really know what you mean. If you're hoping that CBD oil will enable you to come off levo, I would say that's highly unlikely.
Which cbd oil did you have? Could you please share some details on the dose you started on? Thanks
I take this one:
simply-cbd.co.uk/product/si...
I started on two drops and slowly made my way up to 9 - increasing by one drop every couple of days.
You're supposed to take it split two or three times a day, but I can't do that due to having to take thyroid hormone and a lot of other supplements, and the necessary gaps between them all. So, I just take the full 9 drops at night, with turmeric powder and honey, and hold the paste under my tongue for a few minutes. Maybe if I could take it three times a day, I wouldn't need as much, but things seem to work as they are.
I have tried increasing to 10 drops, but the results were less good.
I am finding I cant get any sites for CBD. All i get is a Blank page .
I seem to remember I bought from Brian at a reasonable price about a year ago . Now anything I have seen in shops has risen in price a lot !
Another unnecessary hike in price because of publicity it had . Makes me mad
The link above works for me. Have you tried on Amazon?
Hi GG. It still wont work for me . Do I remember you are in France ?🙂
Yes, I'm in France, but it's a British site.
How about this one:
No , that doesnt work either .
If its Simply by Brian ? . I did use him some time ago but cant get any comtact to work or open. ! Thanks for trying to help . I might add I have seen it for sale in local chemists but they wanted 70 odd pound as I recall .
Too much for me to try 🙂
Yes, it is Simply by Brian. Must be a problem with you internet provider or something. £70 is rediculous! There are cheaper ones on Amazon:
To second greygoose, nothing but thyroid hormone (bioequivalent synthetic, or NDT) can replace your Thyroxine - though I am aware that you know this.
CBD oil is useful for many things, pain and inflammation included. It could be a useful additive to your Thyroxine, but it should be taken a minimum of 1 hour (ideally 2 hours) AFTER taking your Thyroxine (if you take it in the morning). Many drugs, herbs, and supplements impair absorption of Thyroxine and this should be considered when adding anything new to your daily regimen.
I only really use CBD oil to help treat migraine pain, which is rare for me. I tend to use a CBD vape juice (250mg per 10ml) for quick short-acting relief, as well as raw CBD oil (25% CBD, 250mg per tube) for sustained painkilling action, when taken sublingually. Both products are the Canabidol brand.
It is about as effective as Ibuprofen for migraine pain, although I now use it alongside 900mg Aspirin (3 x 300mg tablets) since this is actually more effective than Ibuprofen. In the doses required to have a decent effect, CBD does leave my head slightly cloudy; although this is not a psychoactive drug feeling, it is slightly impairing to concentration.
I've noticed no benefit on thyroid inflammation, or on sleep - but it is still useful for pain. I notice a small but consistent positive effect on reducing benign essential tremor. It is somewhat effective for mild to moderate anxiety for me, but this is not something I suffer with regularly.
Thanks for sharing.I am suffering from most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism though my endocrinologist feels my blood test results are within the range. So was keen to start cbd oil since there are so many people saying nice things about it.Just a bit confused on which brand , what dose, when and how to start as a beginner.
Definitely leave two hours between your levo and CBD oil.
CBD oil, like hormones, should be started low and increased slowly. Start on one drop.
