Hi everyone: Can anybody tell me if there are any... - Thyroid UK
Hi everyone
Alan, inflammation of the thyroid gland or lymph nodes can cause high WBC but can also be due to other inflammation, trauma, allergy, stress and infection in the body.
Thanks Clutter been really poorly last 3 months ,loads of blood tests done low testosterone shows and low cortisol got lots of muscle problems and get tired very quickly also dehydrate in the sun .cant seem to control my body temp. Dr said endo will definitely find what is wrong because all my probs seem to be glandular ,but from what I have read on here some endos are not very good . Alan
Criticism is often levelled at endos for their lack of thyroid understanding and care, Alan. Most are diabetes experts with thyroid as a bit of an add on but there are good endos out there.
Have you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, Alan? If you have your test results with lab ref ranges you can post them for comment/advice.
Not yet Clutter, I have been suffering on and off now for 21/2 years.i can feel near normal for a couple of months then suddenly my body shuts down 20 degrees outside I am laying on sofa thermal vest, t.shirt, jumper hot water bottle freezing, had a lot of joint and muscle probs this time along with dry eyes and mouth.seen rheumatologist who was hopeless ,have got eye hospital tomorrow to see about eyes but my dr says problems are glandular . I hope this endo is better than the rheumy that I saw. Am really suffering from lose of muscle and other symptoms at moment. Have managed to get steroids down from 30mg to 12.5mg but if I reduce lower after a couple of days really start to struggle.thanks for replying.Alan
Hi Clutter just to add I have been on vitd supplements for 2 years now my test results were. Vitd. 82 nmol. 50.00-200.00nmol.
TShLevels 3.33mu/L. 0.35-5.00mu/L .any answers you have on this would be useful.many thanks .Alan
TSH is high enough to be causing your clinical symptoms Alan, but not high enough ie >5 for your GP to be willing to diagnose hypothyroidism. NICE guidelines state hypothyroidism may be diagnosed when >5 but is rarely accompanied by clinical symptoms, which is BS as you'll know from reading posts where people are suffering with TSH >2.
Your fluctuating symptoms may be due to autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) which is responsible for 90% of primary hypothyroidism in the UK. Ask your GP or endo to test thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOab) to check. One autoimmune disease predisposes you to others and lifestyle and diet changes can prevent or delay progression of these. Gluten-free is the first to try and often reduces frequency and intensity of Hashimoto's attacks although others go as far as eschewing dairy, eggs and sugar too.
Your vitD is only just in the optimal range of 75-200 so 2,000iu daily vitD3 softgel caps may be beneficial.
How much Vit D are you taking?
Your TSH is certainly higher than it ought to be. Given your autoimmune sounding symptoms, I'd take a guess at you having Hashi's
Thanks LilyMay I have been taking 1000 iu vitd dr says I a now in correct range was really low 2 years ago .
Alan, ask for ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate to be tested. Some of your symptoms may be due to low levels or deficiency. Your symptoms sound very hypothyroid and core coldness is a classic hypothyroid symptom.
