What the ****?!

So my doctor and I agreed a plan...increase from 25 to 50 mcg levo and a blood test in 6 weeks...then overnight another doctor at the practice decided (without having my results from last test...tsh/t4/tpo/TG thyroid) to increase me to 75mcg and request bloods retested in 16 weeks!!

I’ve no idea what’s going on so I’ve accepted the increase and booked a blood test for 6 weeks.

Also...my test showed my b12 level to be 840 (range is 197-711) but here I am sat in my doctors waiting for a b12 injection!!!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So it's usual for you to have regular B12 injections. It's my understanding that once on B12 injections you continue with them, and there's no need to retest. I'm sure you can get further clarificaton about this over on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum who are the experts on B12

Were you contacted by telephone by this second doctor changing what the first doctor said? Did you not question it? It's not impossible that they could mix patients up.

Incremental doses of Levo should be 25mcg only, not 50mcg. However, as you were started on 25mcg that is such a low dose you may be able to cope with going from 25 to 75mcg. If you have any adverse reaction then drop back to 25mcg, leave it a few days then just increase to 50mcg.

Hi, only 6 days ago my doctor increased me from 25 to 50...the one today had reviewed my notes and bumped me up to 75. Yes I checked it was defo me that they were on about...so I’ll give it a whirl, see if anything improves!

Mistakes happen - the second Dr might have mixed up patient's records or misread yours; or the first Dr may have mis-recorded his action or not done so at all, and therefore the second Dr might be considered to be on the ball in spotting that you were under-medicated and addressing it. My Dr recently deleted my beta blocker from my repeat prescriptions in the process of adding a new one, but then decided I actually needed a Neuro referral, and simply forgot to add it back in - a phone call to the surgery allowed it to be immediately put right, no problem. However, bottom line is that we are responsible for managing out own health and if we notice something that doesn't seem right, we should seek clarification from the people/person concerned. But in any case, we don't have to accept one dose increase or another, if we don't feel it's right for us, and we simply need to inform the Dr accordingly.

Not entirely sure why your B12 is being tested if you are on injections - current guidelines are that this isn't necessary because serum B12 isn't a test that can be used to manage a B12 absorption problem, so bit of a waste of time and money.

Your levels are high because you are on B12 injections - they will be astronomic after an injection and then fall over time. Normal range doesn't apply after loading shots.
