The ranges are pretty similar for TSH. All labs are slightly different though.

Historically doctors only used to diagnose when TSH went above 10. It's an old rule of thumb that a lot of them still work to, despite the better knowledge we have these days. If you have a doctor who wishes to wait the potential years it could take for your TSH to go from 4 to 10, I'd see a different doctor.

How much levothyroxine were you on? If it was only a small dose, say 25 or 50mcg levothyroxine, then you may well feel better because your residual thyroid function is more than the dose you were taking, and all levothyroxine was doing was replacing your thyroid function - it effectively switched off your thyroid’s own efforts.

Or - you’re still in the honeymoon period of having stopped levothyroxine, maybe just a few weeks out from stopping? In which case your own thyroid may have kicked back in - but its function may fall off over the coming weeks. We see it a lot here - people initially feeling much better off levothyroxine, only to crash a few weeks later.

You haven’t really told us enough about the circumstances to be able to gauge.
