Devastated....
As a mom I understand. I just hope he’s one of the people that reacts well to treatment and does find it no problem. X
Use your knowledge to guide him. At least there’s no learning curve of months finding the correct course of action, he’s already streets ahead of many others just being diagnosed.
Many more people are perfectly fine with their disorder and with taking Levothyroxine, than are not. We don't see them much represented in fora because they're off living their lives. Amongst the people I know, not all, but most are fit and well. I was really great for the first 30 yrs, and had the same attitude as your son. Good on him for approaching it that way. There aren't true facts as such, only individual experiences that vary from per person to person. I don't consider it in any way evil, it is what it is, and compared with the life shortening metabolic disorders that many children are born and die with, this is a walk in the park. Good luck and health to your son.
At least your son is now diagnosed and can, with your advice, begin treating his condition. I cannot persuade my son to get tested for the hypothyroidism which I so clearly see he has!
Ahhh I suspected it a few months back when he gained a stone and had a cyst in his breast and he's always tired , he refused a test too but it got picked up today when he went for a biopsy on the cyst , I hope you manage to persuade your son its for his own best interests x
Sounds like a typical male attitude to this vile disease. Good job he has you for a Mum Jodiedebs55 . Hope he soon learns to listen to you and wish him well on this awful journey.
Sorry to hear about your son. My partner has also just been diagnosed with Hypo but he does listen and takes my advice as I don't have a thyroid myself.
My children are 36 yr and 46 yr so far neither of them have a thyroid problem, but watch this space.
I was adopted in 1946 I never knew my family history growing up I now know that it's a family riddled with auto immune diseases.
Bless you , iv asked my mum she says my aunty has hypo and so do 2 of her cousins , I was always in and out of hospital as a child , tummy and bowel problems never diagnosed with anything though until 45 when I had a DVT and they said oh by the way you have hypothyroidism take levo you will be fine , I never even understood what it was or the symptoms of it until I moved and my medical records and full history vanished and new gp refused to prescribe levo until he found them resulting in me becoming desperately ill and had a stroke 6 months later immediately prescribed 150mcg levo and never got well until I stumbled across this forum and started to learn and had such amazing advice I ditched the levo and now source my own NDT and finally feel almost human again , living 60 miles away from my son iv purposely kept my illness from him so as not to worry him but I think if he starts to struggle now on levo il let him know the facts but il monitor him closely to see how he goes . Fingers crossed he may find it suits him but due to family history i doubt it , thankyou for your reply much appreciated
