Thyroid problems
Your GP has to refer you if he thinks you need to see one. Not everyone has a good experience with endos. The one I saw made me very ill, and I'm not the only one to experience that.
You can see one privately but will probably still need a referral.
You can send for the list of thyroid friendly endos from Dionne at ThyroidUK
tukadmin@thyroiduk.org
but ask for feedback from members by private message on any that you may consider.
I visit another hospital in a different town but needed a referral. At least I get all the right testing done, my next blood forms are given me at my last appointment and I'm asked to give bloods a week earlier than my next appointment so then I can turn up and get my fasted bloods done at 8 am, take my thyroid meds before I leave after my blood and by the time I reach home I can eat. So that works very well but I'm retired so I'm not got problems like taking time off work etc.
I too was referred to my Endo by my GP and follow the same routine as silverfox.
I have been seeing my Endo twice a year for 5 years and have complete confidence in him.I will soon be 78 years old and am thankful for the care I receive from the NHS plus added information and support here from Thyroid UK.🌺🌸
A visit to an Endo is not always a good idea most of them are pretty useless. Why not post the results of your latest blood tests on here for answers, include the ranges. Take the test first thing , fasting, and leave of Levo for 24 hours prior.
You could try what a friend did. She had a huge goitre and was really ill and the GP was useless. We went to M&S where she gently slid to the floor. An ambulance was called and she saw the Endo within 2 hours, who was shocked at her treatment from the GP.
OH, and M&S were brilliant - even sent her a bunch of flowers!
