What are people’s reverse t-3 supposed to be like?
The lower on the scale the better. Mine was at 15.9 and I don't like it. My numbers are all screwed up right now to begin with. Might post all your test numbers.
Do you feel like 15.9 is too high? I always heard it should be under 15. Dr Westin Childs MD said it should be like 10.
For me it's too high. Honestly there is a source that says if creeping over 11 you need to look at it. If I do the formula with ft3 and Rt3 i look good. But I'm not good right now. my FT3 is at or slightly over the top...my FT4 is at 3/4 and my T4 near the top. I have been taking from 1/2 grain to 1 grain...and these numbers have not been changing...only my TSH fluctuates. Post all your Thyroid lab results.
Hi Have you talked with your about trying cytomel/liothyronine? I know research shows it could lower reverse t-3. This can be something to talk with your doctor about!
Tsh 0.89 .40-4.00
Free t-4 1.3 1.0-2.0
Free t-3 3.1 2.0-4.0
Reverse t3 16.8 9.2-24.0
I'm going to see how my numbers turn out once over mono deal. This all started with the mono. But you are right...T3 only should lower my ft4 and t4. your numbers look good. I would retest rt3 again and see what it is. When we test the numbers are only for that exact given time. Might have been a weird fluctuation. I always get my tests done around 9 am fasting less black coffee.
I don't know how useful this formula is but it you know your FT3, divide it by reverse T3 16.8. Make sure they are both in the same quantities.

Have you heard of Dr Westin Childs? He has an interesting page on reverse t-3 and reverse t-3 ratio. I know the ratio should be less than 20 and the reverse t-3 total should be less than 15.
I've heard of Dr. Childs. Some people here follow him. There is some controversy about reverse t3. I think Ray Peat has a good article about it but most put more emphasis on the FT3 and FT4 ratio.
I peeked at some previous posts and you seem to be doing well on your current regimen so I don't think you should worry about reverse t3. We thought it might use up T3 receptors but recently I read they have their own receptors. Remember you SHOULD have some reverse T3, that's the way it works.
Thank you! Yes I will check out Ray Peat! I always love researching new health information!
He is the real authority on thyroid so read all these articles and try to figure out what he is saying. He can be very technical, haha. raypeat.com/articles/
There's a lot about rT3 here: tiredthyroid.com/category/r...
It's well worth a read because it has a different point of view than other sites.
