Post throidectomy - remaining thyroid swollen?

Hi all

I had a left thyroidectomy a year ago following the appearance of a large visible nodule. All straightforward and it has healed well. I have high antibodies but no symptoms of Hashimotos so far.....

But I now have a feeling of pressure on the right hand side of my throat, but no obvious lump. Given that I also have catarrh and some indigestion symptoms (a bit burpy- sorry!) it is all bit uncomfortable, but not painful.

I am guessing that what I have is a Hashimotos “flare up” with some inflammation on the remaining portion? I have had a blood test today so I assume if there are high antibodies that will confirm it. If not, I will make a GP appointment

Any advice please?

Do you any recent results and ranges of blood tests to add?

How much Levothyroxine are you currently taking?

Is it always the same brand?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

All thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

No meds being taken - At the review with the GP six months after my thyroidectomy, my blood results were in range (other than antibodies) and I had no symptoms.

Blood test today may show a difference

Still no symptoms other than what I have described above.

Acid reflux and catarrh (reaction to dairy ) can be indicative of being hypothyroid

Presumably you didn't have a complete thyroidectomy but only a partial one

Ahh - sounds like that is all linked then. Yes, I had a partial thyroidectomy.

Thank you very much - GP appointment when the blood results are in then
