Upping dose. How long does the anxiety last?

Hi. Recently I started slowly going down in my dose due to getting some hyper sypmtoms. I very slowly went down from 75mcg to 50mcg. Now that I have reached 50 , it is too low and I am slowly moving back up. It was much easier going down, but now that I am going up I have lots of anxiety. When I was at 50mcg. I just was so darn tired, wasn't thinking clearly and didn't want to get up and do anything. I'm lucky, my doctor lets me break of the pieces and go slowly up or down. It's been awhile since feeling like this. Just wondering how long it takes for the anxiety to go down. Is it about 2 weeks or so??

Thanks!

Hello Jpar,

In my 27 years with an under active thyroid, I have a had a few hypo moments, its not a nice feeling. For me it took a few weeks to stop the irregular heart beat and anxiety. A few months ago , like you I felt my dose was too low and I asked to be increased from 175 mcg to 200 mcg. The doctor said to take 175 one day and 200 the next, which is complicated ( I make up a pill box for the week as its easy to forget which day I need to take more). This seems to have resulted in me feeling less tired and the blood tests show I am now in mid range. Perhaps this is something you could think about trying?

Good idea to have to a dosette box as Suzc16355 as suggested.

I am on 200 mcg but went up to 250 at one point. That is the only time I felt out of control and my eyes were so sore as well, so not sure if that would be the same as Hyper.

I also have to take 10 mcg of T3 and as they come in 20 mcg tablets, I have to take one every other day, so a dosette box is the best way to remember and get the right amount of meds.

My Dr once told me, that too much was bad for the heart, but too low was not good for you either, so the powers that be recommend the higher dose, which is a contradiction I guess but I think we all thrive for quality of life.

Regarding anxiety and feeling better, it may take a little while but once the right dose for you, you will feel so much better. Hope it all works out for you.

Take care :)

T3 is not like Levothyroxine

It's essential to take same dose EVERYDAY

So you need to cut the T3 in half and take half tablet everyday

Hang in there jpar, I was about three weeks when I went from 50-75 mg, had anxiety, nausea and felt very unwell, but as soon as I got used to it I feel great again, just don't push yourself too much and know it does get better

Sympathy to you . Lowering your dose by 25mcg T-4 is a huge reduction. You may miss your sweet spot that way . Try rather at first to lower your dose say one day a week to twenty five 75x6 and 50x1 . It will reduce your dose from 75mcg to 71mcg T-4 . There by lowering your dose by 4mcg per day . See how that works for you first .That might be enough . If after two weeks you still have hyper issues lowering your dose 2x /week to 50mcg and 75mcg 5x/week and see how that feels . If you still have issues try lowering your dose 3x/week . Slowly but surly wins . It's a balancing act .

Best wishes .
