Advice on folic acid please

I was advised by a friend to take folic acid, no I'm not pregnant and finished the menopause a few years ago. She suggested it helps with thyroid problems im hypo and have hashimotos disease but iv looked through hundreds of posts on here and cant find anything to back up her claim . Is she correct ?

Not folic acid, the better form is methylfolate. However, just taking that on it's own isn't a good idea unless you have a known folate deficiency, and then your GP should be taking care of that.

A B complex (containing methylfolate) is one of the supplements suggested to support adrenals and thyroid. Many members take a B Complex, and it's necessary when supplementing with B12 as it's needed to balance all the B vitamins.

I see from your previous post that you already supplement with Igennus Super B. Depending on whether you take 1 or 2 tablets, you are getting either 200mcg or 400mcg methylfolate with that and that is likely to be enough.

Ahhh I see thankyou seasidesusie . I did think it strange . Yes I take 1 super B complex daily and iv just ordered Ashwagandha capsules as my stress levels are ridiculous iv read so many good reports im hoping to improve my cortisol levels which are really high .

My functional medicine doctor recommended Cortisolv one cap 2x day for high cortisol. Mine's still not optimal, but it's helping. It has ashwagandha along with other herbs. I'm in the US & don't know if Cortisolv's available in the UK.

Wow scary reading . Luckily I don't take folic acid it was merely an enquiry but thankyou thats very interesting reading .
