I had a left side hemi thyroidectomy on the 12th November, I had a 7cm x 5cm lump removed as it was pushing windpipe to the right. I have for 2 years have had hypo symptoms fatigue, hair loss, weight gain even though I train at least 4 times a week at the gym, irregular periods which would have massive gaps in between then are heavy, loss of labido. I’ve filled in forms to get latest blood results printed as I’ve always been told my levels are fine and just believed it. But decided since joining this group things aren’t always the case. So I’ve called them who told me the last blood results were done last year and stated that any results that consultants take they don’t send to go- is this correct?
Since op I’ve found fatigue is worse I’m napping during the day while kids are at school, I’m continuing to loss hair in large clumps, I’m an emotional wreck. I’m only 36 and feel every time I try to push myself it’s a massive fail as I become so tired get headaches and I’m becoming more and more anxious about things. I have been booked off work for three weeks and due to return next week but honestly don’t know how I’m going to do my shifts. I work for the nhs and do 12 shifts mix of days and nights. Looking for any further advice regarding this as it’s consuming me at the moment.
Also contacted consultants secretary who advised my histology results are now back but I haven’t got an appointment until December is this normal to wait so long after an operation to see consultant? Am I best just to go see my go and air my concerns?
Thanks in advance for any help

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your previous blood test results and ranges. GP must have a copy of results from hospital
Ask for For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, take last dose 24 hours prior to test, and take next dose straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If GP unhelpful Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
Whilst this certainly sounds like hypothyroid you might also consider polycystic ovaries (PCOS) if your thyroid results check out ok, some very similar symptoms.
Hope you are recovering ok. I’ve since spoken to the consultant who confirmed no cancerous tissues found so I’m really pleased!!! I have had some further blood tests done as feeling tired weak and not really myself and they have found my kidney function has dropped from my normal range. But all is ok I’m guessing just carry on.
