Hi. Any chance you could give some examples of the high and low readings and what you were tested for? The trouble is both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hair to fall out. Have you ever been tested for T3 and rT3?
Docs don’t say just know I Hav underactive thyroids an Hav bloods ever month or soo I was on 50microgram then got put to 75 then they changed to to 50 one day 75 the next now they say bk on straight 75s but as say my hair is just comin out in large clumbs everyday my mum is on a lot larger dose an has to hav b12 injections too , they do say that I’m anaemic to myself but only take iron tablets but they ovs don’t work cos I’m still very low x
Hi
You need to obtain copies of your thyroid blood results from your GP.
You are entitled to then by law. Once you have them members will be able to see what’s going on. Please include the ranges.
50mcg & 75mcg of Levothyroxine is still a very low dosage to be on and it could be possible that your not on a high enough dosage.
Without those results it’s hard to advise.
Also in order to get the full thyroid picture you need to test TSH, T3 & T4. Just testing TSH is no good at all.
If your GP will not test all three, then it’s suggested your arrange private blood testing yourselves.
Medi checks offer this service as well as blue horizon.

Hi lucyloo39, sorry to hear about the problem with your hair. I just wonder if you are careful about the time of your blood test, having it as early as possible and avoiding eating or taking hormones until after the blood test (take last Levo 24 hours before) And following the same routine before every test to cut out any variation due to meds just taken or time of day?
Is your go adjusting using tsh? It’s best to adjust until you feel well then have a test. Keep changing the dose plays havoc with your hormonal system as you know! It takes a while to settle down after every change.
Hi lucyloo, I'm not that well up on all this but I do know those with more knowledge on here also recommend we test vitamins B12 and D and also ferritin and folate. If I've forgotten any hopefully someone else will respond with more/better info. Docs don't test for these things though you could ask anyway. If you can't get all these done from your doctor, along with the tests Peanut31 mentioned, you can get them done privately as has been said. Good luck.
