It is the underactive thyroid that is causing this not the Levothyroxine. When I eventually reached my correct dose, I was like a new person. My brain fog and lack of concentration made me feel like I was loosing my mind. It took one year to get there. How long have you been talking Levothyroxine? I was feeling like you when I was undermedicated ( dose too low).

Yes I see and I am in currently in school and I just started tirosint. Regular Levothyroxine gave me too many problems.

Everything goes slow with hypothyroidism, including out brains, which need a lot of energy to function properly.

My main problem was lack of concentration, but has been improving on Levothyroxine. Not sure if at optimum level yet but much better than before

What dose have you been started on? I was started on 25 more years ago than I want to remember but the usual starting dose now is 50 unless you are elderly or have a heart problem or a GP who isn't up to scratch! So if you have been started on 25 you could be one who is now feeling worse. Our bodies naturally produce thyroxine but sadly for us not enough so we need to supplement to function as we should. A few people though have a body that can think differently and so when this body feels medication coming from elsewhere it shuts down its own system so one can end up on a lower dose than before. Not a problem in the long term though as after 6 weeks you should be retested and the new level looked at and most probably you would need more medication. This is repeated until you are in the correct dose for you.

Testing is recommended every 6-8 weeks as it takes a full 6 weeks to get each new increase fully into our bodies. If you have just started you may not feel any difference for a few weeks but as you move towards your goal you should start to feel better.

One thing to be aware of though is exercise. When we have felt rubbish for may be as long as years and we suddening feel things are changing then we want to get our life back, spring cleaning on a big scale, getting back in the gym or whatever well don't, or rather not yet. We need to build things up a little first so don't use up too much energy at first.

This forum is administered by Thyroid Uk. If you look of their web site they have loads of info re what is happening to you and some things not to do plus things you can do regarding taking your medication or adding in other supplements to help your thyroid work better. So you will learn a lot from that but anything you don't understand shout out and we can help. Always ask for a printout of any results and also the ranges. Ranges vary from lab to lab so without them we would just be guessing but many of us can help you understand what these results are telling you and what o do next if need be.

Well a good starting regime that your doctor may not have told you! Alwaysxtakecyour medication on an empty stomach. So many things can prevent your medication work at its best so empty stomach andxwith a full glass of water to wash it down to where it is absorbed then nothing more for an hour other than water. As thyroid people we usually have low stomach acid so we give the meds the best chance we can to be fully absorbed.

Food next then ifcwe take other medication then two hours after food unless calcium, Vit D Magnesium and hormones such as the Pill or HRT. Judt check on the site as these as they are 4 hours after and knowing me I might have missed one.

You are probably now thinking that you don't take any of the things I've mentioned but some may come later we tend to be low on other things so often we have to supplement to increase the levels. At you next doctor visit you could ask your doctor to test Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin as these help our thyroid to work much better though they need to be optimal but not just in range but I don't want to over load you at the moment! Concentrate on taking the meds correctly and after your next tear as your doctor forca print out of your results but you must get the ranges as well. The ranges of any results are important as they differ from lab to lab so without them we would just be guessing but it's useful to post them here and we can help you to understand them. It can take time to get the right dose for you but after a while you will be doing all the right things to help you more as well. and it's not as daunting then!
