I have not been on here for some time as I have been to ill I went deaf in my left ear about 5 months ago I also started vometing blood was taken to hospital but no one could see why I had this condition cam out with colitis!! And they don't know why I have gone deaf!! In among this I started shaking, sweating had bad pains in every joint on the loo constantly.i kept telling the doctors and consultants that I think I'm attacking my own body this was dismissed by them,,I have gone on like this until I could not go on any longer I had a medical review with my doc about 4 weeks ago I was shaking, sweating, I had white blood cells in my urine I took a sample to him he said Ho it's only trace amounts he examined me and let me go egnoring my request about the shaking and sweating,,3 days later I made an appointment with another doc I saw her and immediately she said I'm pretty sure you have an overactive thyroid 😱 Blood tests confermed this I had hyperthyroidism..I was put on carbimazole 15 mg..16 days in to this medication and I feel worse than ever!!! I am still shaking like I have Parkinson's ,my pain is unbearable the sweating is also unbearable,,I am soaked every day and night..I have also started vometing and feeling nauseous I am not eating just have a raging thirst all the time..I have read on here and on other sites including the good old NHS website that hyperthyroidism is an auto immune illness if this is right why put me on carbimazole should they not be looking at my auto immune system first,,my doctor gave me a four page info on hyperthyroidism and as I'm sure you will all know being on here what they are,,one medication, two, iodine drink to kill the thyroid, three removal of the thyroid!! Why on earth would you do any of these if you are attaking your thyroid with your immune system taking an otherwise health thyroid out is Maddness.sort the immune system out first stop it attacking the body seems the best way to go.why do consultants do this awfull procedure making you hypo in the process 😡😡😡😡😡😡

The NHS does not have treatment for auto-immune conditions, they just treat the symptoms/resulting condition. I think that's the same for all conventional medicine, so you'd get the same result if you paid privately.

Hi rimmer. This sounds horrible and like it could very serious. :-( I really think you need to go to the emergency room again because your symptoms (WBC in urine, shaking like Parkinson’s, unbearable pain, sweating to point of soaking clothes all day and all night, throwing up blood, throwing up in general) could mean you have something life threatening. These severe symptoms don’t exactly sound like it’s just hyperthyroidism. Something else in your body is causing symptoms like WBC in your urine, throwing up blood, and unbearable pain. Even the 24/7 soaking sweats and shaking might not be hyperthyroidism. Your group of symptoms does not make me think hyperthyroidism. It makes me think infection or something else.

One thing that might be helpful: if you change the title to be about your concerns, (example: “Are my symptoms hyperthyroidism? Severe shaking, severe 24/7 sweating, unbearable pain, throwing up blood?”), people with hyperthyroidism and Graves experience and knowledge will respond. It sounds like a lot more could be going on than just hyperthyroidism.

How long ago did you go to the hospital? Where is your severe pain happening? WBC in your urine should not be there and some of your symptoms make me think of a serious UTI or kidney infection. You can die from a kidney infection. I had one once. I was told I had the flu, was sent home, so I ignored my symptoms for awhile. Then suddenly it was horrible! My symptoms were similar to yours and I almost died. For me it was about 3-4 weeks from the onset of symptoms until I was deathly ill in the hospital.

The shaking, non stop sweating, throwing up blood and throwing up in general both need a complete work up and diagnostics. Did you get complete blood panels, CBC and CMP? Did they send you to a gastroenterologist? How did they come up with the colitis diagnosis?

The shaking could be Parkinson’s. Did they do additional testing to rule this out?

Hyperthyroidism and hyperthyroidism from autoimmune disease are two separate things. You have to have your thyroid antibodies tested to find out if you have Graves or not. Did they test your antibodies? If you have Graves or any other autoimmune disease, it is not reversible. It is only manageable. The immune system can not be easily turned off and there is no way to stop the body from attacking itself. Your thyroid has become diseased by these attacks. That damage to your thyroid cannot be reversed, either. Treatment is to slow the thyroid down. If it’s autoimmune, it’s recommended to help reduce the bodies response by going completely gluten free. Most people also drop soy and dairy, since these can also cause reactions.

I hope you can find out the cause of all your symptoms quickly and you are quickly back to feeling like yourself.
