Underactive Thyroid update

Hi All, I posted about 2 weeks ago ref my under active thyroid. Have got my original blood results printout from my GP & I am awaiting results from Medicheck, will update you all when they arrive. I am on 50mg LevoThyroxine a day.

My Original results are as follows:

24/01/18

T4 level - 11.8 pmol/L

TSH level - 5.11 mu/L

25-OH Vit D level - 8 mnol/L

16/05/18

TSH level - 1.94 mnol/Lsleeping all the time

Originally went to Drs because of tiredness & sleeping all the time (16hrs on occasions). Originally felt great when I started Thyroxine but I am feeling tired again, hence my investigations and joining this great website.

My added concern is my original results show Liver function ALT level 50 U/L ! This was not mentioned to me ??

Your comments/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

50mcg is only a standard starter dose. Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks later and dose increased in 25mcg steps, retesting 6-8 weeks later each time

This continues until TSH is around one and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range

To have been left for so long on starter dose and not retested is very poor

Presumably you were prescribed a high loading dose of vitamin D too. Your result was extremely deficient

Hi Slowdragon, My original Thyroid test in January is classed as normal, the locum I saw said it was borderline at opposite ends ? so he felt Thyroxine would make me feel alot better, and I did inicially. But do I really need to be on any Thyroid treatment ? It will be interesting to see what the Medicheck results show, vits etc. I am on D3 but don't know what my levels are now.

With a TSH of 5.11? Yes, you do. You are hypo when your TSH hits 3, and all this 'borderline' business is just so much rubbish! It's far better to start treatment early so that you don't get complications later, heart problems and such like.

Thanks greygoose, This is all so confusing, when I get the Medicheck results through I'll post them here & make an appointment to go back to my Dr's with the results. Although to be honest in this very short time I have had to deal with this condition my faith in GP's has plummeted.

So glad you guys on this site are around to help & guide :)
