Recent doctors visit “opinion changing re T3” & advice re taking T3

I visited my doctor on Friday following recent tests and he agreed to raise my Thyroxine to 150 from 125 daily. This is because my TSH had raised and some of my symptoms returning (albeit not as severe as pre diagnosis).

I told him I was going to source T3 privately as I was fed up of feeling as though I could fall asleep every afternoon and my T3 levels were always low when tested (FT4 on the higher side). I told him I had nothing to lose, if it worked great, if it didn’t then at least I knew. He said he’d had recent correspondence regarding T3 and that option was perhaps changing (inferring for the positive about T3). He said he had another patient asking about T3 recently who he’d referred to a local endocrinologist who had prescribed T3! He said he would write to him and refer me. I nearly fell of my chair. I mentioned the horror stories re T3 and endocrinologists, the House of Lords petition etc. I also had gone armed with Dr Toft article in case he didn’t agree to raise Thyroxine. For some reason and not st all what I’ve been used to, the appointment seemed to go well.

In the meantime, I’ve already had confirmation my T3 is en route and i intend to start taking it when it arrives, I don’t intend waiting until I see the endocrinologist just in case it never happens!

Question

Please can someone advise me how I should start taking T3? I’ve read some people being advised to reduce Thyroxine and add a quarter of tablet of T3 in and others say keep Thyroxine at the same level and add T3 in??

I will keep you updated re the endocrinologist referral.....

Thanks x

Well, it does depend on your FT4 level and how much T4 you're taking. If your FT4 is right up the top of the range, it would be advisable to reduce by 25 mcg. But, if it's around mid-range, no point. But either way, you should start on 1/4 tablet. :)

It is not permitted on the forum to post details of where to source prescription medications. Therefore one should request a Private Message to be sent to them which is between the person and the informant. The post will then be closed so that no answers are on the forum.

To send private message you just click on the person's name(s) and it remains private and doesn't appear on the forum.

Posts will be closed so that only private messages can be sent/received. T3 seems to be in very short supply at present and some people may give wrong information, so it is always very improtant to see when the person has joined as it might not be genuine thyroid hormones.
