Have no faith in doctors !!!!!!

I have given up with doctors there supposed to give advice but all i can get from them is i do not know .

I have become so down over the fact that i have health problems .

Trying to work and stay active and maintain my mental health , I asked my doctor about why my heart rate was so erratic when trying to work out he just did not even answer me and i have asked twice now and that it was making me really tired .

So about 3 months ago i started taking vitamins off sea kelp , selenium , turmeric , L -lysin .

I had got to the stage again that i wanted to die i was feeling so ill and tired .

I had to try something .

Now its taken 3months and my heart rate is no longer hitting highs off 220 when working out my heart rates dropped too 167 .

Wait till i tell my doctor i am going to try stopping my thyroid meds after trying to tell my doctor for 15 years that i was still feeling ill and trying to get referred to a specialist and refused i am just going to try to doctor myself as i seem to have more success .

I have been going to the gym so long now so my heart rate should not be so high plus i am walking so i know something was not right.

Doctors just seem to give off that they do not want you there so i will look after my own health .

Hi traceydunn

I see it has been a few years since your last post, but, you are still not feeling great.

I wonder if you would benefit from having some private blood tests for your thyroid to see what is happening?, especially if you are not getting any joy from your GP.

Kelp may not be a good idea either to take, you state that you may stop your thyroid medication, what medication are you on.

If you could give us more details and any recent blood tests the more experienced members will help.

Don't give up, you have come to the right place for help.

Best Wishes

Hi

We're not supposed to do strenuous exercise as this depletes T3 (I read on here). We're not supposed to take kelp either.

Have you ever had any Vitamin levels tested? If not, what are you actually supplementing with? It's also a "no" to Multivitamins & minerals.

When were your last blood tests? Do you get copies of your results ? Have you any you could add to.your post (with ranges & dates) for comment?

Not a good idea to stop Levothyroxine as it's needed for life. What dose are you on and how & when do you take it.

Do you know if you have Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis?

If you are having symptoms then you have a right to ask for a referal to an Endocrinologist. If you are refused then ask GP for the following tests:

FT3, FT4.& TSH also (if you haven't had them before ) TPO & Tg.

Also ask for the following tests to check some nutrients levels :

Vitamin D, Calcium

B12 and Folate also Ferritin.

Get prescribed supplements for any deficiencies.

Google search NHS choices - symptoms of deficiencies in * . . . (each nutrient ).

Is there a different GP at the practice you could see. Go round them all if you have too.

Keep going back to GP but don't stop Levothyroxine.

Have you had an up-to-date blood test? If your heart is playing up it can be due to insufficient T3. They rarely test Free T4 and Free T3. I believe that a TSH and T4 is not adequate testing even though doctors have been told that it is.

Levothyroxine is an inactive thyroid hormone and has to convert to T3. T3 (liothyronine) is the only Active thyroid hormone and it is T3 which is needed in our millions of T3 receptor cells for our metabolism to function normally.

GP will probably only test TSH and T4. This is insufficident. If you can afford a private test from one of our recommended labs it will give a Full Thyroid picture. The most important are the Frees, i.e. T4 and T3.

I will give you a link re private labs, and they do a home pin-prick tests so make sure you are well-hydrated a couple of days before blood draw.

My heart began to play up before I was diagnosed. When diagnosed and given levothyroxine palpitations were much worse. I had investigations/several heart monitors etc and then cardiologist stated that it might be worthwhile putting ? in heart (cannot remember name) but around the same time time I began to add T3, and heart calmed somewhat. After a while I went onto T3 only and have had no problems since then with my heart.

Severe palps are awful as I had to do my own first-aid in order to calm them down, early a.m. was always the worst.

If you decide to have a private test - they are pin-prick finger blood draw so make sure you are well hydrated a couple of days before.

Draw blood at the earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and if you are taking thyroid hormones, allow a gap of 24 hours between the last dose and the test and take afterwards.

You should request TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. Even if the first three are in the 'normal' range it is the Frees and antibodies which give the bigger picture.

Post your results with the ranges for comments. If you have thyroid antibodies, no matter what the results ae for the others, the doctor should still prescribe.
