What types of D3 are you supplementing with that work and you have blood work to back it up?
I'm currently taking Natures Aid (5000iu) but seem to be suffering unexplained joint pain which in the past has been down to my D3. I'm currently awaiting recent blood work.
Thanks

For Hashi's patients a D3 oral spray is advised for best absorption as it bypasses the stomach, eg BetterYou.
Are you also taking D3's important cofactors? D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc. Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.
Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening
The K2 is needed to use the D3 properly and you kind find Dr. Rheaume-Bleue explaining it on Dr Mercola's website.... see this great video towards the bottom of the page, but study all on the page as well
Oh my that spray I am looking at now on the web really gives a far too low level of K2 for each 1000 iu of D3 according to the information given by the doctor interviewed by Dr Mercola. You see the problem is the K2 is expensive and to keep the price low they are probably short changing the K2, but in the short run some combination is better than none.
I use a professional grade called CanPrev that has gel caps with 1,000 iu D3 and 120 mcg K2 which is what the doctor says is the right balance.
Here is a quote from the Dr Mercola website which has the interview.
Dr. Rheaume-Bleue warns:
"There are so many people on the vitamin-D-mega-dose bandwagon, taking more and more of vitamin D. And it could absolutely be causing harm if you are lacking the K2 to complete the job to get the calcium where it's supposed to be. We don't see symptoms of vitamin D toxicity very often. But when we do, those symptoms are inappropriate calcification. That's the symptom of vitamin D toxicity. And it is actually a lack of vitamin K2 that can cause that..."
Hi, I used to get muscle aches and joint pain when i took Vit D. My doctor told me it was all in my head. I went on like this for years not taking it regularly because of the aches. Then I saw a chiropractor who understood exactly what I was saying and he told me to take it w/MK7 (K2). Voila! joint paint/muscle aches didn't coincide w/D3 consumption. I was amazed. All those years wasted on an MD who blamed it on my imagination.....you can be sure I don't see that doc anymore!
I'm currently using Mercola's K2 (as MK7) Prior I used Jarrow. Both equally good, or at least stave off the muscle/joint issues. I'm also using NatureWise 5000 IU D3. It's in an olive oil base. The reviews from Amazon were good, many stating it did bring up their levels based on lab results. I'm taking this bottle till it's gone and will get tested to see if others reviewers were right. If results are minimal, I may try Mercola's spray Vit D. You spray it in your mouth, a sublingual, as was suggested.
At what point in the day should magnesium be taken? Doesn't it interfere w/T4 conversion? I know iron should be taken 4 hours after you take T4, is the same true w/calcium and magnesium? I have several forms of magnesium and I have no idea which is the better one. It's frustrating. I did have a blood test for magnesium and it was mid to upper range but then I read those tests aren't too accurate. Wonder why CMP measures calcium, sodium, potassium, etc but not magnesium, when it's apparent so important.
I usually take T4 in the morning, then a couple hours later take D3/K2. I always wonder if I should be supplementing a Cal/Mag to go with it, but not sure if together or a different time of day. Any suggestions? Thanks.

D3 should be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds and as it's fat soluble (as is K2) they should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day.

Magnesium yes. Calcium no unless tested and found to be deficient. The reason being is because D3 aids absorption of calcium from food so likely to increase calcium level to a certain extent anyway. And it's because of this extra calcium that Vit K2 is needed as that directs calcium to bones and teeth and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems.
I’ve taken Nature’s Aid before, as a liquid. It worked well and reflected in my blood test. I’m now on BetterYou D3 spray and separate K2 spray by BetterYou and those have shown good results in blood tests too.
You definitely need to add K2 alongside D3. Before I did I’d get stiff muscles and headache (I definitely noticed this as I never ever get headaches!)
