IRON OVERLOAD

Does anyone have experience of having an iron overload? I am hypo and am 4months in on taking NDT after 5yrs of hell on levy. Feeling so much better but some symptoms that remain I think could be down to iron overload which recently showed up on a private test. So was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.. thanks

I have no experience of iron overload personally, my problem is usually low levels of iron and ferritin.

However, I'd be curious to know what your levels and reference ranges are. Depending on what they are I might be able to find some useful links.

Thanks. I suppose I was worried it was somehow related to me taking naturethoid.

You will find a huge amount of detailed information about iron on the Iron Disorders site. Even on the front page, they list these issues related to iron overload:

Hemochromatosis

Juvenile Hemochromatosis

Dysmetabolic Iron Overload Syndrome

African Siderosis

Iron Avidity

irondisorders.org/

And from the UK:

Hi Katkrap,

What was the result of your private test?

I’m also on NT and my ferritin has doubled (last test 234).

Not sure what the symptoms of iron overload are ?

My result was 314 but I hadn't had a test with GP for about 2 years which is why I had concerns over it being connected to taking NT. About 5yrs ago I was severely iron deficient and took iron tablets. If you look iron overload up you will see that the symptoms are very similar to thyroid issues! They would be just to complicate things😕 I will seeing my GP on Friday so I am hoping he can shed some light on things and I'be had another test done thru GP. Always 1 step forward and 2 back.lol I am feeling so much better on nt as with levy I had spent 18mths unable to function at all I can now get up every day and do stuff! I am just hoping there is no connection
