Are you taking Levothyroxine?

If you're not converting T4 to T3 well enough T3 can help, some members use Tiromel and get on well with it.

Before you know whether you should use T3 then you need to test TSH, FT4 and FT3 all at the same time. Also, you should test Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin, as low levels of these mean that no thyroid hormone will work properly so they need to be optimal before considering T3.

I'm not sure if we have any other members from South Africa who can answer your question about whether a supplier will deliver there or whether it is allowed into your country.

Thank you SeasideSusie.

I have been using Eltroxin and currently, Euthyrox since 2000. Massive weight gain after Radio Active Iodine treatment . I am struggling very bad with symptoms such as: Continuous weight gain. I basically have to fast every day for 12 hours, not even taking water in order to try and maintain my current 90kg weight. I used to weigh 156kg !!! Got ill a few years ago and lost weight during that time. Thank God for that! Blessing in disguise. Dry hair; brittle nails; poor memory; always feeling like i am stupid; always tired, but yet cant sleep; advanced hair growth all over my body, especially in my face; constant low iron levels even though I take iron tablets; my right leg swells very badly from below the knee and then the rest of my body start to swell; aching knees and ankles; deteriorating eye sight; osteoporosis; bloating and gas.

According to local GP' s and Specialists, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the thyroid or anything else for that matter.

I have had several scans, x-rays, blood tests , CT & doppler scan and lymphogram done. No bleeding ulcer. No sists or anything.

Doctors here don't believe in T3 and do not want to assist.

My T3, TSH and T4 levels have never been in range since 2000. One or two is always out of range, either too low or too high.

I posted my last full blood results on here a few months ago and was advised to try T3. Eddie said the results are evident of my body not converting T4 into T3.

Thus my search began to find T3.

Only one Pharmaceutical company imports it, but you can't buy it directly from them, only Doctors are allowed to. So far I have not found a Dr who is willing to purchase it in order for me too buy it from him/her.

I try to eat healthy, get in some exercise and stay positive. But when my two cupboards filled with clothing ranging from size 16 to 24 yield me nothing to wear on some days, I feel like slitting my wrists and be done with it !!

Many people on the forum use Tiromel and it works well and is generally one of the lowest cost options.

In the UK it is legal to import for personal use so it may also be in South Africa.

Thank you HughH.

Any suggestions on how I can determine this?

I have Googled "What medication can I import to South Africa"

google.co.uk/search?source=...

Scrolling down the links there is one for

guideline for the importation and exportation of medicines

and if you click on that it is a document that you can open in your own word document so I can't link to it but reading through this part seems to be appropriate

2 LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IMPORTATION OR EXPORTATION OF MEDICINES OR SCHEDULED SUBSTANCES

2.1 ORDERING MEDICINES FROM ABROAD

No person shall order any medicine from abroad for personal use unless the Medicines Control Council has granted the said person an authorization in terms of section 21 of the Act to import during a specified period a specified quantity of the particular medicine, which is not registered with Council.

Purchasing a medication from an illegal Website or supplier puts you at risk. You may receive a contaminated, counterfeit or substandard product. Taking an unsafe or inappropriate medication puts you at risk for dangerous drug interactions and other serious health consequences.

So it may be that you may have to make some enquiries your end or do some further Googling.

Thank you SeasideSusie

It is much appreciated. I will have a look and inquire

I've used it for years and find it good. Don't know if they deliver to SA, probably depends on where you buy it.
