Starting Armour....Have questions

Hi everyone

Today I saw endocrinologist and got him to change my thyroid medication. I'm currently on Synthyroid 88mcg and 15mcg Cytomel and tomorrow I will be starting Armour (60mg) x2 per day....is this equivalent to synthyroid 88mcg and the 15mcg Cytomel or is it less or more? Endo said I can take them together or split them one in morning and one in the afternoon.

Any thoughts on dosing and what I might expect when I start taking these?

Thanks, Grace

I'd take dose once daily as you then don't have to bother about whethe your stomach is empty as food interferes with the uptake.

I prefer one daily dose - taken with one full glass of water and wait an hour before eating. It makes life a lot easier and we don't have to worry about having an empty stomach etc, so that nothing interferes with the uptake.

I'd take pulse/temp before beginning and if you feel hot or pulse high, take temp and you might find it hasn't changed at all. If either do go high, reduce dose slightly. We can also increase by a small amount every 2 weeks if still symptomatic.

(I am not medically qualified and have hypothyroidism).

Make sure vitamins/minerals are also optimum, B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folat.
