Got my increase in levo, but...

Basically had to beg. GP then said I’ve to get bloods in two months and if there’s any indication I’m going into hyper, they will remove the additional dose....’even if you feel great’!!! SERIOUSLY? Oh so they’ll reduce the dose to stop you going ‘hyper’ and purposefully make a patient feel like rubbish???

Gobsmacked 😡

Welcome to the wonderful world of thyroid! Yes, happens all the time because doctors know nothing about the disease they are treating. To hear a doctor talking to a hypo patient about 'going hyper' is just unbelievable! They don't seem to know that that is physically impossible. And, even if it were possible, taking an increased dose of levo wouldn't cause it because levo is not a treatment for the thyroid, it is thyroid hormone replacement, replacing the hormone that your thyroid can no-longer make itself.

I'm not sure if they actually know that what they mean is 'going over-medicated' - if I can put it like that. But, they certainly don't know what constitutes an over-medicated patient. They go by the TSH, which is a rubbish indicator of thyroid status. Your TSH can be low but if your FT3 is still in-range, then you are not over-medicated. To get round this problem, they refuse to test the FT3. But, I have come to the conclusion that if there is one thing a doctor hates, it is diagnosing and treating hypothyroidism, and they will go to extreme lengths to avoid it!

Buy your own and ditch the middle man! That's what I'd do.

Thank you - it’s appalling how we are treated. You’d think I’d asked him for heroin the way he was talking! 😡

Yup, I know. I've always said it would be easier to get heroine, than thyroid hormone. :(

I once had a GP saying “it is what it is, what do you want me to do?” after I complained about my hypo symptoms. Well... how about help me?! Isn’t that what they supposed to do? 😐
