Hi just a quick question, I think its been asked before but I can't find it. Just had Levothyroxine increased to 75 mcg and was feeling quite optimistic about this, and hoping to continue taking it, as would make life easier. Spoke to friend last night and she said Levo has been linked to breast cancer, but can't remember where she read this. Just looking for some reassurance really, has I really need this medication. But due to having a daughter to look after, this is really freaking me out, so much so that I haven't taken my tablets today. Please can anyone put my mind at rest. Many thanks
Levothyroxine and breast cancer?: Hi just a quick... - Thyroid UK
Levothyroxine and breast cancer?
Breast tissue is sensitive - and I have read that Hyper folk are more susceptible due to over stimulation. Did you read my recent post about the levels of VitD required to prevent breast cancer ? Around 150 would be good if you are in the UK
Thank you for replying, helps with putting my mind at rest. When I had medichecks bloods done in April, they said my Vitamin D level was 54 (50.00 - 200.00). Looking now, does it need increasing? I take a supermarket brand but says 12.5ug on bottle. Will read through your posts now. Yes I am in UK. Thank you again

Marz, I'm glad you posted that article about the Lapp study. Do you have any thoughts on the later trial (I will try to find it) which found no statistical difference in cancer risk between those who took vit d and those who took a placebo? It seems to swing back and forth.
I'm not trying to prove or debunk anything (maybe I'm behind the curve) and I know this topic is regularly up for debate. In my own interests (bc in my family) I try to stay on top of it and it seems like the more I know the less I know.
The later study (also by Joan Lapp): jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...

(Sorry OP, I don't mean to derail the thread.)
It's a puzzler. A lot of research is being done but what are the firm conclusions?
Am afraid I do not have any further thoughts at the moment. Brain works better in the morning - so will read through your links carefully then. As we know research needs to be researched to check who is financing the work ! Often we read that more research is needed ... speak soon.
Had a read through this morning and noticed the levels of D3 were halfway through the suggested ng/L range - when 60 would be better. Also why did they add in Calcium when that is naturally improved with VitD supplementation. I think reading through the Grassrootshealth website will give more information that could be useful to you. Carole - who runs the website attributes her recovery from BC to VitD and has been working on the research ever since.
I am slightly suspicious when it comes to discrediting vitamins and minerals in research. I realise there are no firm conclusions. I upped my VitD dose hugely when I discovered more about it all and a recent colonoscopy shocked the Gastro as he said it was the healthiest gut he had seen in my age group. And this after a lifetime of surgical interventions for gut TB and Crohns. As VitD is anti-inflammatory I feel it was a big part of the reason. Also Crohns and TB are associated with Low VitD in research.

Synchronicity at play - this has just popped into my Inbox as part of the VitD Council Newsletter ! Again American as you know !
I don't think that is quite accurate. However, many hypo women have low vit D (esp with hashis), which IS linked to breast cancer and most hypo women take levo. Therefore there is likely to be correlation, but not causation, between taking levo and getting breast cancer. For example, cheese consumption correlates with deaths from becoming tangled in bedsheets ... See tylervigen.com/spurious-cor...
