If there was many of us would be on them- best remedy for hypo weight problem unfortunately is getting on exactly the right dose of levothyroxin, or/and T3.

From personal experience 12 years hypo, yes, still seeking perfect hypo control now with added T3! Hope others will tell you their regime for weight losss but don't think it will be a pill!

Just want to share my experience. I have lost a lot of weight over the past five years-slowly- by changing my food to more healthy than not. My original motivation was for health and to get off of the myriad of meds we seniors seem to find ourselves on over time. I was able to get to get off all diabetic meds including insulin, off blood pressure meds, asthma meds by giving up dairy, etc. I still have some weight to lose about 30 pounds and about 5-6 months ago reached a plateau where not only was I not able to lose but began slowly gaining. I knew my thyroid was being undermedicated by my doctor and finally found a helpful, effective endo who I saw for the first time in early April. This is the beginning of my fourth month of adding T3 to the almighty levo my former doctor prescribed as she was married to my TSH results as her guidelines. As we know dosages have to be bumped up slowly and evidently I am approaching optimal doses as in the last 2-3 weeks I have begun to lose weight again-almost 10 pounds in the past 3 weeks. I have not made any food changes-just better thyroid care through appropriate meds and raising my Vitamin levels which were dismal. I believe this is the answer-effective thyroid care. When I first saw this doctor I read on this forum that when we are properly medicated the weight seems to take care of itself to a large degree. Now I am a believer. Stick with the often difficult job of finding doctors who will treat your thyroid problems effectively; demand-don't ask-for good care, and follow the information and advice provided by some very smart people here who have been where you are. Diet pills are not the answer and, as a retired nurse, I believe their use may have probably caused many of us to unknowingly damage our thyroid function over time. Just my opinion. But hope this info helps. Take care. xx irina

This is the commonest and most distressing for many on this forum.

An optimum dose of levothyroxine may help but many need the addition of T3. Levothyroxine is T4 only. T4 converts to T3 (liothyronine) and it is T3 which is the only active thyroid hormone needed in our millions of T3 receptor cells which runs our whole metabolism from head to toe. The latter half of this link is informative, as is the first half.
