Adrenal Fatigue

Since February I have had trauma after trauma and could feel myself going downhill. This week I realised I would be hospitalised (again) if I allowed it to continue. In hospital they have no idea what to do with me! So - I have increased my T3 dose. I normally take 40mcg a day - all in one go one hour before eating or drinking anything. For the last 3 days I have increased up to at least 60mcg a day. It seems to be working. Have I discovered the answer to Adrenal Fatigue? There are frequently posts asking for advice on the Adrenals.

It was you actually Mamapea1 who gave me the idea to really up my T3 dose. Particularly the NHS put the fear of God into me about taking too much T3. I seem to have averted disaster by increasing. x

It's not about taking too much T3, it's more about increasing by too much at a time! Increasing by 20 mcg a day in one go is more likely to give you adrenal fatigue than cure it. Increases should be by 5 mcg every two weeks.

Omg! Really? I thought you'd been doing adrenal research! So do you think you need that much extra? I was thinking I had cellular resistance problems ~ I was also taking high doses of Levo before ~ do you think you've been under medicated all this time then? I hope you'll be ok ~ I feel responsible now. Maybe you should increase more gradually as GG says if you've been on 40mcg for ages ~ I've got to go out now...... I'll PM you later (((hugs))). 💕xx

No, please do not feel responsible. An extra 20mcg of T3 a day over the last 3 days has made me feel much better and stronger; no over medicated symptoms at all. I was going downhill very rapidly. I'm thinking now that I've got cellular resistance problems.

I would read Paul Robinson's book about the circadian rhythm and how to use T3 to resolve adrenal issues and/or get something for the adrenal problem.

Help!

I’m new here and I’m working my way through lots of posts with a new found enthusiasm!

Marigold22 - you seem to know that stress causes you to be ill... I’m intrigued. I’ve been hypo for about 13 years after a stressful time saw me go hyper then hypo... all unknown to me of course.

I have been ill since last sept after we had an extremely traumatic year. I “crashed” with very low hr, body temp etc and have never really recovered. The gp has diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome but I just feel that if a traumatic event started my thyroid journey, it’s too much of a coincidence that I became ill after another one.

How do you know you need T3 as opposed to levo, what was your journey to find this?? TIA

OMG,,,, my story is so long and traumatic. Firstly, are you on any thyroid med? T4?

I was first diagnosed Hypothyroid in 1981 when my son was 8 months old. Put onto T4 but got worse. It was in 1995 that the renowned private doctor Dr P realised I could not convert T4 into the usable thyroid hormone T3. Then in 2016 I paid for a private genetic test - the DIO2 - to confirm that I have a dodgy gene from one parent, which prevents my thyroid from converting T4 into T3.

Stress causes me to go into adrenal fatigue (or even adrenal insufficiency) - ie the adrenal glands become very low output due to low thyroid.

I would guess (although I am not medically qualified) that you have low thyroid and low adrenal glands. This is a massive subject and I apologise but I am currently under a lot of stress and not feeling too good. Keep on searching and reading on this amazing forum, keep asking questions, there are a lot of very informed members who will help you
