Perrigo Liothyronine problems

I have just spoken with the pharmacist at my local Tesco, which supplies my Perrigo liothyronine tablets.

Her supplier had contacted Pharma Mayne on my behalf to ascertain the situation with supply of these tablets. Mayne told them that they will not be supplying ANY tablets what so ever in future. It was stressed that they will not supply any tablets of any sort in future.

I asked the pharmacist for advice / info on the German liothyronine hydrochloride tablets. She was not able to advise me. She was not able to suggest an alternative vegetarian tablet either. She did say she would do some research to try and help but added she is really busy and doesn't know when she can get back to me.

When I was switched to Perrigo almost two years ago from Mercury Pharma due to problems, my GP refused to switch me to anything else and insisted that I see an endo. I have about four weeks supply of Perrigo liothyronine 5 mcg and about 8 weeks of Perrigo Liothyronine 25mcg. The waiting list to see an endo in my area is 4 to 6 months.

I can't see my GP switching me to a different form of lio tablet when he wouldn't change manufacturer last time.

I did email Pharma Mayne myself over two weeks ago - they have not replied.

I am really stressed out and don't know where to turn.

You can get 5mcg liothyronine from sigmapharm Boots chemist give me these instead of Perrigo. I have had them in the past and I find them stronger than Perrigo.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Their list of ingredients contains geletin. I have emailed them to ask if this is from a vegetarian source and if they supply Tesco.

My nearest Boots is quite a distance but what is more of a problem is that they would have to obtain a new licence for me before they can supply the tablets. This took Tesco a couple of months. I don't have enough tablets to last that long.

Hi, The sigma pharma liothyronine contains beef gelatin and may contain gluten as they use starch from corn, maize or wheat.

I have asked my gp to prescribe Henning thybon tablets as these are vegetarian. Tesco have confirmed that they can obtain these easily for me. I'm waiting to hear back from my gp if he is happy with change to hydrochloride from sodium in the tablets.

Tesco's supplier does require a one off letter from my gp confirming that no suitable uk tablet is available as well as a prescription.
