Hair loss: Can anybody tell me why I'm losing my... - Thyroid UK
Hair loss
And I forgot to say I'm 66 yo female
In your post/thread of 5 months ago - members suggested you post your results in order they could help you - hair loss included. Still waiting 😊
What meds are you taking ? How much ? Supplements ?
I take 120 mg armour, 25 mg losartan and 1 mg lorazepam, iodine and multi-vitamins, calcium, magnesium, betaine HCL, vitamin D3.
So quite a cocktail
If you are taking VitD3 then there is no need to take extra calcium - as D3 naturally improves the uptake of calcium from foods. Maybe a good idea to add VitK2-MK7 as it directs calcium away from the arteries and into the bones and teeth.
Multi-vits may contain iodine - so check - if so do not take more. Do you have Hashimotos ? - if so then iodine is not considered appropriate. Multi-vits are a poor way of taking vitamins - often not enough of anything and if you increase then you can take too much ! Better to test individually and supplement accordingly.
No mention of B12 or a B Complex.
Blood Pressure - if raised can be a symptom rather than an illness/condition.
Anxiety Meds - maybe look at diet and how food affects the brain. Kelly Brogan is a good place to start and others.
Do you have your recent Thyroid Test results ? Maybe something not quite right there that could be causing the raised blood pressure and anxiety .... and hair loss.
Zinc is good to take for hair loss I believe.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.
Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.
If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get tested.
As Marz says iodine is NOT good, unless tested and found deficient. With Hashimoto's iodine definitely not recommended at all

Thyroid results, usually TSH needs to be around one (or slightly less) and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range
