How long have you been on this dose ?

Do you have your results with ranges you could post - people can then comment.

25 mcg is a VERY small starter dose and should be increased after 4/6 weeks ....

Do you have Hashimotos ?

B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD - must be tested too and levels need to be GOOD :-)

i will have to really pin my DR down , cos i have little faith in there services, cos i found out about my thyriod, was when i visited my GP , it was about my knee,pain.... ! she then checked my blood pressure, siad i have hi,, blood pressure, and hi cholestrol. sent for blood test, revisited after blood test done a few days later, then told i have a hypothyriodism, gave me 25 micro,,,levothyroxine tabs, given a ream of blood test forms, for reg, blood tests, told to buy a blood pressure machine, to reg record the readings, I came away with minimal info, from my GP?? on any of this,,, found out more, on internet, and from the likes of you guys, about this problem>>>> my quest for info is still ongoing, i,ll keep digging and asking questions, but as siad have little faith, in any of theGP,S at my surgery,

High blood pressure and raised cholesterol are symptoms of being HYPO. Once on a decent dose things should improve ....

We do have some male members who may come along.

If you post your results, with reference ranges, members can comment.

I imagine you're feeling tired and crappy because you're on a very small starter dose of 25mcg. That dose is usually for children, the elderley and those with heart conditions. If you don't fit into those categories you could have been started on 50mcg.

Retesting and an increase in dose should have been done 6 weeks after starting Levo, with regular 6 weekly retests/increases until symptoms abate. How long since you were diagnosed and started Levo?

Check Initiation and Titration in the NICE Clinical Knowledge Summary which doctors should follow cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

More than 6 weeks ago. The doctor.s surgery that I go to I don't have much faith in. And they have a new doctor that diagnosed me with thyroidism. She just gave me a number of sheets. For blood tests at my local hospital. And told me to buy a blood pressure machine to take my blood pressure. And record it every day. ???? Unfortunately when I first met the doctor at my local surgery. I sat there she was facing her computer typing did not look at me. Was asking me things. And she was an Asian . And soft spoken person. I could not hear or understand her very well. And said pardon. Quite a few times she said to me would you like to have your hearing tested. I smiled to my self and said yeah.. ok. (!? Another test of my health Ok!! I don mind. Especially at my age. The point being! I would rather get answers. From people. That have some connections. With this symptoms. Than askany one of the doctors at the surgery. So thanks for all your answers. Have not read them all as of yet. But will post again.

First thing is, do you have any actual blood test results? if not will need to get hold of copies

UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need enhanced access to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up. They can make nominal charge for printing but many will do so for free (£10 max and can not charge at all after May 2018)

Can you add most recent results and ranges for TSH, FT3 and FT4, plus have you also had thyroid antibodies tested

Also helpful if had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested. Add results and ranges if you have them

25mcg is only half the standard starter dose (unless you are elderly, frail or heart condition)

NICE guidelines saying how to initiate and increase. Note that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine

cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

TSH should be around one and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results
