For those of you in England who do not have an exemption certificate (or otherwise exempted), or need to know for other people:

Prescription charge to rise to £8.80

February 22, 2018

The Government has announced an increase to the NHS prescription charge of 20 pence, to £8.80 per prescription item. This change will come into effect from 1st April 2018.

The cost of prescription pre-payment certificates (PPCs) has remained the same for a further year, with the price of a three-month PPC at £29.10 and a 12-month PPC at £104. PPCs offer savings for those needing four or more items in three months or more than 12 items in one year.

The Government said: “To ensure that those with the greatest need, and who are not already exempt from the charge, are protected we have frozen the cost of the prescription prepayment certificates (PPC) for another year… Taken together, this means prescription charge income is expected to rise broadly in line with inflation.”

It is bad. But I’m exempt. Because I take Levo. If I didn’t have them I won’t be. So if I needed more than three a month I would pay for the other the card.

You only need one a month (for 12 months) to be less expensive to buy a prepayment certificate.
