Off meds exhaustion

So following a hashi flair, I was advised to come off my thyroid meds until my next meeting with my endo which should be next week when I’ve received my new blood results. (Which we’re done Wednesday).

I’ve been off the meds for about 4 weeks and have been strictly AIP diet as well as all vitamins, minerals and adrenals being addressed. However my exhaustion is now just ridiclous! I had a couple of weeks starting the aip which I’m

Pretty sure was my body adjusting to the lack of carbs but I picked up slightly on eating more. Today though my exhaustion is just, well, exhausting!!!

Is this just because my flare has passed and now my body is screaming at me to take my medication?! That makes Sense to me, but just wanted clarification.

Thank you x

Until you get your results your just left in the dark guessing

Would hope you had FT3 tested as well as FT4 and TSH

Also get vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 retested after such a long time with no medication.

Yes thank you I had everything tested on medichecks. Have been supplementing all the above even without the meds. Just feel so awful

I think you should start taking your meds again. After 4 weeks off though, you might want to start slightly lower than you were taking before, at least until you know your blood test results. Make sure that you get a copy!

I was only on 50mg..

Was undermediacted before my flair up put a spanner in the works!

Then starting on 50mcg seems like a very good idea. :)

Is it usual to come off all thyroid meds following a flair up? Not sure how sound this protocol is.

I was going to ask the same thing

This was the advice from my endo because my t3 and t4 were both so so high.. he wanted a blood test once

Flair settled and judge meds from there.

I’m really struggling though!

Do you take your meds before you get tested or after?

After

If people have blood test results showing that their Free T4 is quite a bit over the range and TSH is very, very low plus they have symptoms suggestive of hyperthyroidism then coming off Levo or lowering Levo dose is a good idea.

I think Levo should have been resumed earlier than it was (or will be). The idea is just to let levels drop until the person feels better, then when the inevitable hypothyroid symptoms start appearing then Levo should be started again.

There have been some people who've had Levo dose slashed or taken away entirely because of a Hashi's flare. The whole idea is to avoid that scenario if possible.

Thank you as this is news to me. It is always interesting to learn of recommended protocol when treatment is not offering positive results.

Also how are your adrenals? Is your body absorbing nutrients ok? Also am wondering if going off the meds right now was a good idea, thinking that if you are trying to heal your body by adressing/ getting the nutrients that your body needs.. doesnt it need the thyroid hormones even more so now that it is now making enough of or slowly making?

Is this to figure out how much more you need? It sounds like 4 weeks is a long time to be off of thyroid hormone atleast in the state you are in right now. I wonder, do you know if your body has enough hormone and is not being recived etc? I forgot which test is what 🤔😑

Yes I feel it’s been a long time to be off the meds. I’m having adrenals addresses and all nutrients. Have had stool sample

Sent for gut analysis and am on strict aip diet. I just wonder if it’s now my body crying out for thyroid hormones, because it’s not making enough.. my tsh was 4.1 before my flare up and I knew I needed to up my dose but then this flare up

Got in the way! I’m guessinng my tsh will be even higher now?

It’s just so debilitating. I’m a young mum and I just can’t funtion at all!

Also my cortisol results were fine except for am cortisol which is slightly above range. Explains my morning tremors and fatigue to some extent I imagine. Taking adrenavive ll and another adrenal

Support along with holy basil and lots of vit c

I hear ya, that sounds awful😔. Thank goodness this appointment is coming soon. Hopefully it will all be straightened out and this doctor will figure out what needs to be done. Also thats wonderful that you are supporting adrenals. I just out my were not doing well either. Way to keep pushing forward. I hope you express your concerns and he/ she will take you seriously.
