Wondered if anybody can give me some advice? So I've been having constant thrush lately and i didn't realise it could be a symptom of under active thyroid, I have tried all sorts to help clear it but not succeeded. My tummy is always bloated but just assumed it was the weight I've put on (3stone in a short amount of time) and Hashimotos, will taking a probiotic help and if so which ones do you recommend.
Many thanks
Clare

Yes I do have Hashimotos. Thank you for the link very interesting read I will take it on board I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow so hopefully raise levo to 100mg
Hashimoto's affects the gut and often leads to low stomach acid and low vitamin levels
Low vitamin levels can affect Thyroid hormone working
Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten
According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies
As I'm Hashi's one of the things I take is Natures Plus GI natural Digestive Wellness. It contains-: Probiotics, short chain fatty acid promoting prebiotic blend, L-Glutamine (good for gut healing & my tummy is happier for It), Live enzymes blends, selenium, zinc & others things.
Can only speak for myself in that my tummy feels better as I started it after having a weeks long stomach trouble after inadvertently taking in soy! That was a horrendous week. So have stuck with it.
I'm sure others can advise on what they take.
Take Slowdragons advice.
I have found it very helpful and essential, to be gluten free, soy free & now soya free.
I found a gluten free treat but have binned it as it contains soya!
I've certainly noticed far less bloating. I buy Kefir from Sainsbury's & checking the label I think it's ok for me. I'm forever checking labels!
