What is wrong with me!? Feel like I’m going crazy....

Hi

New to this, just wondering if anyone could give me some advice based on my symptoms etc. I’m currently awaiting FNA 9th April. I can’t help but feel somethings being missed, I know something is not right with my body by the way I’ve been feeling. Thanks for reading!

So what symptoms are you having Emskijay, and have you had your thyroid levels tested ?

The thyroid has wide-ranging impact throughout the body, and people with thyroid problems can feel very ill.

Thank you for responding! High reference for T4 is 16 on my results and High reference for T3 is 6. My TSH is below normal range on my results and my GP says my thyroid is borderline..borderline what!?? I’ve since been under the hospital. I’ve been taking a multivitamin with probiotics everyday for over 10 years as I have low iron levels but not anemic. I eat well, normally would be at the gym 2/3 times a week. I walk everywhere as I don’t drive. I first noticed the lump on my neck beginning of December and it’s been slowly growing since I just thought it was a lymph node as I was feeling off starting around that time.

Most thyroid nodules are benign, but obviously need to be checked out. btf-thyroid.org/information...

Your FT4 is only slightly over range, and your FT3, although high, is still within range. Assuming your FNA turns out ok, they may decide simply to monitor your thyroid levels , and see whether they come down of their own accord. - perhaps retesting in a few months time.

The usual first treatment for more severe hyperthyroid conditions is an antithyroid drug which suppresses reproduction of thyroid hormones. However, these drugs have potentially serious side-effects, and given that you aren’t far over the range, might suppress your thyroid too effectively, so ‘wait and see’, provided you are given a date for repeat tests, might be a sensible option at this point.

The main thing is to make sure you ask your specialist to explain the rationale for your treatment, and what they expect to happen next. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take notes, or even take someone with you to help you remember everything.

Hi Valarian

Thanks for the reply. I have popped all my current issues on my profile. Hope this helps. 😊

It would help if you add the reference ranges to your results so they can be interpreted correctly, ranges differ from lab to lab so your FT4 and FT3 can't be interpreted without them. My surgery's lab range for FT4 is 7-17 so your result would be good with that range, but some are 12-22 so your result would be low with that range.

The symptoms you have listed can be indicative of low nutrient levels so it would be a good idea to test

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Post the results, with reference ranges, for members to comment and suggest improvements if necessary.

Your GP is thinking borderline overactive thyroid due to higher end of range FT4 and FT3 with low TSH.

It's always easier if you put your results, with ranges, in your post to save members having to flick back and fore to check your profile :)

Multivitamins generally aren't worth taking, they often contain not enough of anything to help, use poor quality and the least absorbable form of ingredients and the iron will prevent absorption of any other ingredients, iron needs to be taken 2 hours away from other supplements and 4 hours away from thyroid meds. You would be better off getting the tests I mentioned and supplement where there are low levels individually along with any cofactors needed.

Sorry to say that your multivitamin is pretty rubbish. It contains a myriad of excipients/fillers and many wrong forms - magnesium oxide is the least absorbable form of magnesium, zinc oxide is the form that goes in sunscreens and again the least absorbable, selenium is the selenate form and inorganic and not as well absorbed as the recommended selenium l-selenomethionine or yeast bound selenium. It also contains folic acid rather than methylfolate, doesn't say which form of B12 so it's probably the cheap cyanocobalamin rather than methylcobalamin form. It doesn't say which probiotics are included. It doesn't say which form of Vit K is used, K1 aids blood clotting and is synthetic so cheaper than K2 which is the form we need when taking D3. It contains Iodine and calcium which we shouldn't take unless tested and found to be deficient and besides the fact that the iron will affect absorption of everything else, the calcium will stop the iron being absorbed. There is really only one place for that multi and that's the rubbish bin. You need good quality supplements that use the correct form of ingredients.

Wow ok! It’s all a learning curve. I actually stopped taking the vitamin shortly after the blood tests. I wanted to wait until the hospital and doctors have done their thing, so I do appreciate the advice as I would have no clue about any of that. Thanks 😊

I always feel dreadful when I tell people their supplement is rubbish :( but as you say it's all a learning curve and at least we can put things right if it's pointed out to us.

Just a quick note to you.... I don't really understand what you have written in your profile, but all the B vitamins have helped me to not feel crazy. Just a thought x

Hi thanks for your reply

I have been taking a multivitamin containing the b bits for over 10 years.

Top of my range for FT3 is 5.9! just to say same as SeasideSusie that we are very much in the dark without all the ranges, it can be a very fine line and unsafe to comment without them

Hi, My advice would be to be careful with supplements, dont take too many at the same time. Yes b vitamine will help a lot: b1, b2, b3, and biotin. Just a lil bit of b6 too. Pure bulk has some good ones.

Good luck

Emskijay in reply to Lolota

Thank you. It is Mulitibionta Vitality that I have been taking for years. I’ve had no issues until the past 4 months.

Does the miltivitcyouvsrextaking have iron in it? If sobitcwill be negating the other vitamins as iron has to be taken apart from them. When the thyroid doesn't work well we are often low in nutrients so multivits aren't much use as we can need a much higher dose. 4 things help our thyroid to work better, ViD, B12, folate and ferritin so worth eill asking your doctor to test those and see if you need to supplement. They all need to be optimal, not just in range so please post for advice. Getting those good will help your body generally.

Yes it has a low dose of Iron in it. Thanks for the advice. I’ll get onto that!

I was sick for 17 years and i started getting hand tremors real bad and heart palpitations bad so i went to my family and made do labs and 2 days later he told me i had graves disease so 4 moths later i got into an endo and he told me i was six weeks away from having a massive heartattack. I also have real bad high blood pressure i take 300 mgs of meds everyday. Its not fun being so sick. I have to watch my salt intake and my stress.

Hi sorry to hear u r suffering I had and still have symptoms like urs and yes I have a goiter on right side of thyroid similar pains from neck to ear then in my right side head really dry eyes blurry vision ..to rule out graves disease they should check the antibodies for u which is TRAB antibodies

Emskijay profile image
Emskijay in reply to Samy3

Oh that doesn’t sound fun, I’ve no pain on my head like you and my eyes are fine atm. I just know things are not right and I need a conclusion so I can get my body go back to normal. I believe they did a full panel a few things were higher or lower than normal but nothing to cause any concern apparently, but regarding my thyroid only tested for free T3/T4 and TSH levels. I’ve read about the antibodies. Can I request them do you know!? Thanks

Samy3 profile image
Samy3 in reply to Emskijay

Yes with the other thyroid tests u can ask ur GP to check the antibodies of thyroid for u when I was diagnosed my tsh was completely suppressed it was 0.02 and my t4 was 52 I had bad palpitations depression hair fall pains in muscles weight loss with lits other symptoms and my eye was the first thing I noticed.never knew that ur body loose lots of vitamins and minerals with autoimmune diseases I asked gp to test and I was really deficient in those just ask ur GP the cause of ur borderline thyroid levels and they can check the antibodies for u...
