Hiya, just got ferretin result back and it is 36. Is that low? It is still in the 'normal' range but wondered if it is contributing to my fatigue and hair loss. What is the optimal range please? I have Hashimotos. Thanks

Yes a level of 36 is low. For thyroid hormone to work (that's our own as well as replacement hormone) ferritin needs to be at least 70, preferably half way through range. Low ferritin can be a cause of hairloss, amongst others healdove.com/disease-illnes...
You can help raise your level by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/in...
Thanks a lot, actually had liver last night. Not so keen but maybe if I make into a pate or something I could stomach it!
Hi Jenbot. I'm eating liver once a week tho I really dislike it, trying to raise my ferritin level. I simmer a TON of onions and chopped garlic to drown the liver. Just eat it as quick as I can and treat it like a particularly awful medicine. Then brush my teeth and eat something yummy to get a better taste in my mouth. Monday is liver night for me. Yuck!
